Underworld Evolution A Deeper Look into This World of Vampires and Werewolves and the Lies of the Past

Kenneth Flickstein

Underworld Evolution picks up right where Underworld left off. Selene (Kate Beckinsale), the former Death Dealer, is on the run with the unique half-breed Michael Corvin (Scott Speedman) following the all out battle with the werewolves and the betrayal of other vampires. The coven is in ruins and the betrayers still at large, the priority becomes to wake the last of the elders Marcus (Tony Curran); still asleep and vulnerable.

Events of late and the distant past collide as facts about the history and relationship of the vampires and werewolves are unraveled. What follows is a hunt for the truth and a battle against the past sins of the coven and the source of it all.

This dark movie once again has us rooting for the vampire, the iconic bad guy …err girl, as she attempts to find the truth and get past the last 600 years of force fed dogma. What she finds opens her mind to the intentions of her former dark father and her hidden intended role in the coven.

"Why evolution?" you may ask. The answer simply is that things are about to change dramatically. The movie shows the characters experiencing changes in biology, perception and most dramatically… purpose. Selene, once a Death Dealer with an obligation to her coven to protect the blood line and exterminate the werewolf population, has seen her entire world go through a state of turmoil and is now trying to find the next step to stabilize her world. Her new obligations to Michael are in conflict with her need to protect the coven as he is a threat to the blood line and would be killed on sight.

I can't really tell you more without revealing key elements of the story. What I can say is this movie is a wise investment in your entertainment budget. The action is plentiful, the damage severe and the story furthered. Better and more detailed than the original story, this movie will draw you in and hold you till its conclusion.

Will there be another sequel? They certainly left it open for another, and the box office for this movie should drive that conclusion. I would say YES and would be disappointed if they don't create one.

  • Great movie, a good way to spend your entertaiment dollars.
  • Continues right where Underworld left off.
  • Everything is about to change for them, all they know was a lie and the truth is devastating.
One ritual said to destroy a vampire included: a stake through the heart, beheading, burying the body, stuffing the head with garlic and rose petals, burying the head in hallowed ground. Now that's a lot of work.
