Unearthing Osama

Kat Sanchez
I was watching that new show on Discovery, or National Geographic (which will always be referred to hereto-forth as NatGeo) "Solving History with Olly Steeds. He was on a quest for the Lost Ark of the Covenant, and it ended, as will all NatGeo adventurous quests, with the noble conclusion that our great mysteries should ultimately remained hidden for the improvement of the adventurous spirit of humanity. In other words, the original Ten Commandments might be locked up in a church in Ethiopia, or it might not, because there was a very stern old man guarding the door that would not let Steeds inside to see them. Perhaps if the traveler is pure and has a divine purpose, perhaps a signed document from the Almighty, the old man would know to let him in, and then, since he was very old, die, and leave the new person to guard the ancient artifact forever.

But watching that show gave me an idea that many years from now, maybe 50 or more, someone will try to make a similar show trying to find out what happened to Osama Bin Laden. He is not Atlantis, or the Ark, or the Grail, or the Lost Incas, but I would very much like to know what happened to him. Don't you think it would be rather bizarre that the Most Wanted Man in the World should just vanish off the face of the earth, until so many years go by that the world knows he has to be dead? Then, like trying to dig up an Egyptian tomb, someone will be looking for where he is buried.

I feel an attitude around us now that we have kind of given up looking, like when we were kids and had been playing hide and seek for too long. I think I've assumed he was dead for a while, and then some people will say no, he's certainly in Pakistan, and I'll think, maybe they can hide him out there. Some people think he's still hiding out in those caves in the desert, an outlaw and romantic notion, but not practical for nine or ten years. But any attempt to try to bring him into a more popular area would mean someone would see him, and eventually he would be caught. My theory of him entombed in his final resting place seems more plausible.

However...I was thinking of him for some odd reason while studying for the MAT, and I actually remember what I was thinking about, which was having plastic surgery on my face to change the way it looked, not because I had any particular deformity, just to change the appearance, and I thought what someone could do for Osama. A surgeon could drastically change the size of his nose, alter the appearance of his eyebrows and forehead, and change the shape of his mouth and lips. He could even darken or lighten his skin tone, change his dress, and be a person unrecognizable as Osama Bin Laden. You could walk past him on a crowded beach in Hawaii, laid back on a bench sipping Mai Tai's. I think of tales of prisoners who have escaped, like those three men who swam away from Alcatraz and were never heard from again. Just a thought, wondering how much longer we will feel like playing hide and seek.

Just wanted to hear other people's thoughts on the subject of Bin Laden and where you think is his most plausible location.
