Unemployed 99ers Demand for Tier V Legislation to Be Addressed at Washington DC Rally October 2, 2010

Tier V Legislation Part of List of Demands at Upcoming Rally Called One Nation March

J Budd, RN
According to a press release from the Unemployed Workers Action Group, organizers of the upcoming One Nation March will make passing extended unemployment benefits part of their rally demands on October 2nd.

"Ms. {Bertha} Lewis (NY Coordinator of One Nation March) supports us and they are adopting S.3706 (The Americans Want To Work Act) as part of their legislative demands for the march. I specifically asked permission to spread this word to the 99er community, and the answer was a resounding YES!" according to the UWAG press release. "This means the legislation will receive much needed attention and is not just a part of the overall jobs bill, but a specific focus for the Oct. 2nd March/Rally."

What is S.3706 and what does it mean for 99ers and Tier V unemployment benefits?

UWAC and other advocacy groups for the long term unemployed have continued to fight for additional unemployment benefits as the American economy continues to lag, jobs remain scarce, and despite recent news that the recession 'ended' in June 2009. These jobless Americans have been nicknamed '99ers' for the number of weeks they have collected unemployment benefits and still cannot find a job. In response to their pleas, Michigan Senator Debbie Stabenow introduced legislation (S.3706) that would, among other things, establish a Tier V of unemployment benefits to provide an additional 20 weeks of jobless benefits for states where unemployment remains over 7.5%.

What is the One Nation March?

The One Nation March is organized by the grass roots organization One Nation Working Together. According to their website, One Nation Working Together is a united band of concerned citizens who want to "break the gridlock in Washington" and move forward with improving America in terms of many issues: the economy, jobs, education, immigration reform, and energy reform. One Nation Together has a number of events planned across the United States this fall including the Washington DC rally on October 2, 2010 at the steps of the Lincoln Memorial. I give all the people credit who put on the grass roots action March in Washington DC today for all Americans. Maybe others who criticize will wake up a little and see the future will be a wasteland if something isn't done now. We won't have a future without jobs. The future will be in the hands of our children soon. We have to make it right now inspite of those that have blinders on. Our focus is straight on like our President says. He's right.

Sometimes people have to live through it to understand what we are going through. Sometimes people never learn or care to. People like Jill have no understanding. It's useless to try and talk reason. Best to turn away from the ignorance. Vote Democrat and get that kind out.

Jill, You must not be unemployed. You can't be that out of touch with reality. I can sit here and call you all the names that come to my head; and trust me I have some for you. Instead I am going hope that you are just talking out of ignorance. God bless you should you ever become unemployed. How you feel if you lost everything. Sometimes people just need to keep their mouths shut. Especially if you do not know what you are talking about.

First of all enough is enough. The economy has too high unemployment rate with no living jobs. Dow is being messes with to slowly look good. There are too many unemployed through no fault of their own. It should have been down months ago to extend unemployment indefinite until the number get back to normal levels. This helps investment and helps people at least afford to look for work, eat, maybe pay rent but highly unlikely on what they are provided for a lifeline but it is something. Enough of the lazy comments from our own if you have a job your lucky partner!
