Unemployment Benefits Extension: Americans in Michigan, Texas, and Nevada Await Checks
Many States Have Differing Unemployment Situations, but Are All Awaiting Benefits
Michigan
Senator Debbie Stabenow (D-MI) has already indicated that she is in support of a Tier 5 benefits extension. Considering that her state has the second highest unemployment rate in the nation, that comes with little surprise. What is surprising, however, is that those in Michigan can expect to receive their jobless benefits within two weeks.
Nevada
Nevada is the state with the highest unemployment rate. Even though it's one of the hardest hit locations, people in this state may a long wait for benefits. Within seven to ten days of the extension letters will be mailed out telling people that they are eligible for the benefits extension. Only after someone responds to the letter will they get their checks.
This could mean that a system glitch could cause some individuals to have excessive wait times if they aren't listed in the state's database as eligible. Individuals are instructed not to contact the state's unemployment office during processing of the claims.
Texas
Texas is eligible for three of the four tiers, meaning someone in Texas has up to 93 weeks of unemployment. An economist in Texas, Ray Perryman, says the following of the benefits extension: "we do still have a lot of people who have been out of work for quite some time. For those families, it is certainly important. We are beginning to see job growth in sectors like construction, manufacturing and minerals, which should be a harbinger of good things to come and a diminishing need for such benefits."
Still yet, there are 77,000 in the Dallas-Fort Worth area alone receiving benefits extensions, and an additional 62,000 people receiving the initial 26 week term.
No matter what state you live in, if you are unemployed you are anxious for this extension. The legislation was welcomed with open arms, and is crucial to our nation's economic recovery. These three states have very different situations they are in, but they are united in that the recently passed law is vital to their populations.

Post a CommentOk I finally got a hold of them. They said I used up all my benefits. That's with in just 36 weeks. (99'ers are lucky) So after speaking to a supervisor They are releasing to me all funds left in 2 of my claims totally $1020 I'll receive em with in the next 48hrs. That's it I'm done. Really done $1000 bucks isn't enough to pay all of my bills and with no more income coming in I'm done. It's been nice.
TWC- Finally they paid me!!!! I never received a letter in the mail, it was jst reactivated yesterday. I also received all retro pay!!
Have anyone who filed on the 1st of Aug. receive any kind of an update on their online account? I'm still seeing $0.00 for the now past 6 weeks.
I live in Michigan. I had 15 weeks remaining on my EB. I will be receiving back pay as well. I still haven't yet, though. Do you think there is a reason for this? If Scott Clark got his last Tuesday, why am I still waiting?
Meg - I live in Michigan and got everything to get me current (including back pay) last Tuesday. There are approximately 9,500 people that have to wait two weeks (those that exhausted state benefits and haven't been converted to federal EUC yet), otherwise they are quickly taking care of the other 60,000+ in Michigan that were impacted by the lapse in payments.
Why cant the democracts and republicans work things out together? They are working for the better of the American people right? Ive got my own bill to be passed since they cant figure it out on their own.Take the democractic stimmulus money and the republican tax credit money pool it into my bill which is called the over 45 year old and long term unemployed bill.Any employer willing to hire these unemployed will get a tax credit for up to one year of free employment payroll capped at 60000 dollars paid for by us the tax payer. If we can bail out the big banks auto industries credits for hybrids and energy efficient homes and new home buyers why cant we do this for our hurting Americans?
My last claim was called (TUB) 'Temporary Unemployment Benefits'. It ran out on June 5th. It only paid up to 13 weeks out of the 21 weeks it was supposed to be good for. So will it be extended?
In the late 1700's the well to do in Boston did not like a 3 cent tax on tea and started a war over it. I think what is happening today is a way worse type of economic tyranny and needs to be handled the same way. By force. Look and see who voted for the tax cuts for the rich, and those denying unemployment and are starving american children. They are the same people. Find them and talk face to face with them. Make them WISH they had voted differently. The second amendment allows us to bear arms against tyranny.
Is it better because everything you had was stolen through paperwork instead of breaking and entering? I think we are a little past merely voting them out.
i think obama should be impeached and all the rest of the over paid ASSHOLES in washington should be FIRED this country is no better than when bush was in office they need to quit pissing back in forth we do not need ether partys it should decided by the people of the united states with one or two people if there was a tie i bet they would do somthing if they did not have there health ins,or there big fat pay checks that are payed for by the over taxed people of the USA if the jobless rate contiues like this i mean come on if we do not have a tier5 extention to help the unemployed workers that even those that have benfits what is going to happen to those people when that runs out! thats just like throwing the dog a bone pissed off still unemployed almost homeless&the street!
