Unemployment Extension 2010: America's Jobless Find Out Fate at 2:30 PM Tuesday
Republican's Don't Support Adding $33 Billion to the Deficit, but Support a $600 Billion Tax Bill
The Senate is set to vote on the controversial legislation tomorrow after the new Senator from West Virginia is sworn in to office. With the new Senator in place, it's believed that there will be the 60 votes needed to pass the measure through the system and land on Obama's desk.
The extension of benefits will only extend the time to file the first four tiers that were instated into law previously. It will not add a Tier 5 extension, and it won't make people eligible for tiers they previously weren't eligible for.
The bill also is lacking a crucial extension of the COBRA Subsidy. Previously, the government paid 65% of the COBRA premiums for unemployed workers, keeping the cost of medical premiums affordable. This is now gone and will have to be brought to vote in other legislation later on.
Today, President Obama will speak about the extension of benefits at 10:30 am. It's expected that he is in full support of any measure to extend unemployment benefits to the jobless in America.
What's the hold up? Paying for the bill. It comes with a steep $33 billion price tag, and Republicans want the government to reign in spending. Senator Mitch McConnell is sad that the Republicans don't support the measure, but notes that it highlights just how bad of a shape we are in financially in the United States. He states ""If we can't pay for a program like extension of unemployment insurance that virtually every member of the Senate supports ... then what are we going to pay for?"
Ironically, Republicans support a $600 billion bill to keep the Bush Administration tax cuts in place.
Tuesday will be the day when we find out the fate for the unemployed. Will Congress once again turn their backs on Americans, or will those who have been suffering once again receive the aid that they so need?

'Are there no prisons?"
'Plenty of prisons,' said the gentleman, laying down the pen again.
'And the Union workhouses.' demanded Scrooge. 'Are they still in operation?'
'Both very busy, sir.'
'Oh. I was afraid, from what you said at first, that something had occurred to stop them in their useful course,' said Scrooge. 'I'm very glad to hear it.'
'Under the impression that they scarcely furnish Christian cheer of mind or body to the multitude,' returned the gentleman, 'a few of us are endeavouring to raise a fund to buy the Poor some meat and drink, and means of warmth. We choose this time, because it is a time, of all others, when Want is keenly felt, and Abundance rejoices. What shall I put you down for?'
'Nothing!' Scrooge replied.
'You wish to be anonymous?'
'I wish to be left alone,' said Scrooge. 'Since you ask me what I wish, gentlemen, that is my answer. I don't make merry myself at Christmas and I can't afford to make idle people merry. I help to support the e
I have been unemployed since November 21,2008. Being a disabled Veteran, I am only able to do certain types of jobs, and am unable to do just any job that comes along. The unemployment benefits that I have received are the only thing that keeps me from being homeless, and one of my fellow disabled vets on the street holding a sign trying to keep from starving to death. Why should the Senate and Congress care about us little guys trying to survive. They have their fat incomes, and 3 high priced meals a day. I served my country for years, and now I am faced with living on the street. For all of us Veterans facing the same situation, we served our country, now let our country serve us by passing this bill, and giving us the time and tools to become self suffecient, so we can support our selves. I also say that any politician that vots no on this bill should never be reelected for additional terms of office. They should also be made to live a week or two in our shoes to see how much of a s

Once you get back to the work force, the unemployment benefit stops.
Don't be greedy and it's illegal.
By the way, CONGRATULATIONs.
So, let this be the STAND ALONE bill.
Oh yeah, like I love getting 1/3rd of what I was making and living at near poverty level. So why should I look for a job. All my needs are met through food pantries, Good Will and the Salvation Army. Unemployment which is paid by the employer not the government, is just so lovely. Forget the fact that I've worked 25+ years and put into unemployment while working. Oh yeah, let me just scratch my balls and eat all the junk food I can from all those wonderfully healthy food pantries. Living below what I used to live just encourages me so much not to look for a job.
Not, Not, Not!!!!
I look, look, look and look. I interview, interview and interview. Just so many unemployed. Too few jobs and Too many applicants.
So, sure allow me to just go over to the total edge of poverty and apply for welfare and medicaid which does come from the government and all will be happy, happy, happy.
