Unemployment Extension 2010: Congress Completes Benefits Bill as 99ers Press on for Tier 5

Creating Sustainable Jobs is the Only Way to End Long Term Unemployment Woes

Meg G.
The unemployment extension 2010 passed Congress with a final vote of 59-39. The task was completed even though it had strong opposition from the Republican party. In fact, they tried to add several resolutions to the bill trying to figure out a way to pay for it.

Here are some key things to remember about the legislation:

1. Only those who have not exhausted all 99 available weeks of unemployment benefits will be helped by this legislation. It does not add a Tier 5 extension. It does not make tiers 3 and 4 available to states that weren't eligible before.

2. The benefits do not include the $25 added as part of the American Recover Act. Congress stripped this out to make the bills more affordable.

3. The measure is retroactive to June 2, 2010 or whenever an eligible person rolled off their tier of benefits. Lump sum payments will be made

4. The benefits extension is only good through November 30, at which time we will have to do this exercise all over again.

Although the unemployment extension is beneficial, it's not enough for the "Tier 5 to Survive" movement. The extension of the legislation is only a stepping stone. Those who have pushed and pushed their Senators to pass this bill are not going to be satisified with just this bill. Long term solutions are a must.

What do I think needs to happen? First, think of unemployment as an infection. In a way, it is an infection in our economy. To fight an infection, first you have to treat the symptoms and then get rid of the root cause.

The treatment is to give unemployment benefits to the jobless. To end this once and for all, the root cause - a lacking job market and a horrific economy - must be nursed back to health.

Giving employers incentives to hire workers is one way to treat this ailment. Another way would coincide with one of Obama's pet projects - clean energy. By pressing on with clean energy, you will create jobs. People must build nuclear power plants and wind farms - and then they must be maintained. High paying jobs such as scientists and engineers are necessary to make sure every thing works.

And these jobs wouldn't need to be paid for in the long term by the government. The companies and contractors building the plants will make their own money and be able to foot the bill of their payroll. All that may be needed are some attractive tax incentives such as refundable credits for each long-term position created.

Now that we have our band-aid in place, let's find a long term cure. Keep pressing for a Tier 5 because it could be a while before everything is set in motion to get the job market back in place.

MAYBE, IF WE STOP HELPING OTHER COUNTRIES THEN WE WILL BE ABLE TO HELP THE AMERICA PEOPLE WHO ARE LESS UNFORTUNATE.

When i heard Anne Curry ask Joe Biden what to tell the American people that are out of work to "hang in there", I'd like him to tell these people exactly how to survive, eat, keep their homes, etc., by "hanging in there."

WHY do the morons in "Economics" and our Government always seem to go broke? Scams are not successful unless you scam someone. Overnight, they could LITERALLY authorize $50 TRILLION for Unemployment Benefits...yet, they never do. Why is that, Meg? I won't throw in how fake "Social Security INSURANCE" (not even a FUND with a requirement of them that they MUST PAY you) is, or anything else, like "Green" jobs. If the above is true, ask yourself how we go into "magical" depressions/recessions, and how unemployment skyrockets. You WILL be surprised! Ask yourself how prior to the Federal Reserve Act of 1914/1930, there was no Unemployment problems....then magically there were...overnight. If you ended the Fed Reserve, and forced the Government(s) (State and Federal) back onto the Constitutional/Common Law, this would cease OVERNIGHT. Because if you run your OWN monetary system, nobody else does! Go Meg, GO! You can do it! If you put your mind to it!

    My dearest Meg,

The Federal Reserve, is neither Federal, nor a Reserve. The money and credit they create out of thin air and loan...is worth nothing, and costs nothing. And the Government grabs the loans (on interest obviously), and gives it....right back to you. ZERO of your tax "dollars" (fed reserve notes are NOT real dollars) go TO anything useful, it in fact, automatically goes straight back to the Treasury (scam, run by Fed Reserve people) and then back to the Fed Reserve to pay them back. So remember this: Since almost all banks, INCLUDING the Fed Reserve (private corporation of 12 banks who magically "print" money out of nothing) do Fractional Reserve Lending (meaning they themselves, even the tiny banks, create fake credit/money)......how is anyone broke? It is because banks trade fake, non-existent money for REAL property...namely YOURS. Sweet right? Then ask yourself, if all the "money" in America is fake, and made out of thin air for nothing (like credit magically is).....

    Hello Meg,

I hate to tell you this but so called "Clean Energy" is not the job bonanza many claim it to be, in fact taken as a whole these jobs to clean energy schemes are certifiable job killers. In Europe, efforts to expand clean energy employment have resulted in the elimination of 2 jobs for every one that was created. Spain especially went strongly in that direction and the results have been such a job killer, they have had to abandon their efforts. If you want jobs cut the red tape and uncertainty facing business today...

Screw those in Washington and those that say the 99er's do not need or deserve a Tier 5. Hillary just last week promised millions of Tax Dollars to foreigners A G A I N. What the fck are we ?? forgotten and B E T R A Y E D by our own Govt ...again and again. Why doesnt Obama just sign an executive order, he can appt someone with Senate approval, yet he will do N O T H I N G for millions of those that voted for him.2.5 mil get help, but the hardest and longest hit ,4+ million and their dependants get nothing but see ya later, too bad for you. Nobaody should get a vote in Nov, except the Independents. Dems and Repubs need to be voted out, dragged out, shoved out in the street. No wonder so many 99ers are now commiting suicide and the Govt is not guilty of causeing the deaths of thousands of americans, over MONEY

  • Oligarchy7/23/2010

An oligarchy (from Greek ὀλιγαρχία, oligarkhía[1]) is a form of power structure in which power effectively rests with a small segment of society distinguished by royalty, wealth, family ties, military control, or religious hegemony. The word oligarchy is from the Greek words "ὀλίγος" (olígos), "a few"[2] and the verb "ἄρχω" (archo), "to rule, to govern, to command".[3] Such states are often controlled by politically powerful families whose children are heavily conditioned and mentored to be heirs of the power of the oligarchy.

Oligarchies have been tyrannical throughout history, being completely reliant on public servitude to exist. Although Aristotle pioneered the use of the term as a synonym for rule by the rich, for which the exact term is plutocracy, oligarchy is not always a rule by wealth, as oligarchs can simply be a privileged group, and do not have to be connected by bloodlines as in a monarchy. Some city-states from ancient Greece were oligarchies.

This is for you Joe, my husband has been out of work looking actively for work. It has been since Nov. 08. I can't tell you the amount of interviews he went to that they were hiring. You know what he got, well you are too experienced for this job. We did go to welfare you know what they said well you made too much money in the past sorry can't help you. So don't be saying that we don't need unemployment because there are people out there that aren't lazy they just can't find a job.
