When you were employed you were probably in with the social crowds. Going here and there. Going out after work with your coworkers. Spending time with your friends and family on your time off. Maybe you had a very fast paced working schedule. Always on the go. You worked hard for your paycheck. And, because you received a paycheck you were able to provide for your family and/or enjoy social engagements. Even if your job was very stress full life was ok.
So, here we are now. You're unemployed. At first, everyone who cares for you will give you their sympathies. People from work may or may not call you. It all depends on your personal situation. If they call you than those calls may slowly dwindle down. Your not in the work loop anymore. And, if they keep calling you it may be because you had a powerful position and you were able to help other employees. You will feel even worse because you now have no power to help them anymore. Next comes the emotional baggage from your job. Did you work like a dog even on your last day? Was that job your life? Read this if it was. In the first few days of unemployment you will still be on your work schedule. Basically, going through the motions in your head. Then comes the mental changes. You may be angry over why you were let go. Financial worries start to set in. Your social life is not the same. No money to go out all the time. That leaves you out of your social loop. You most likely will not be invited to events because people will say that they know that you don't have the money now. And, before you were treated as an equal in social gatherings. But now. its a pity party when your around. Or, maybe your were financially supporting someone who really needs it and is depending on you. Now you feel terrible because you cannot provide for that person.
Next, comes the physical changes. Before, you were on a fast paced schedule. Always on the go. Now, you often wonder how the hell did you keep up that running around day in and day out. Because now you may have morphed into a couch potato. And, your family is now nagging you to get out and find a job. You find yourself spending way too much time on the couch watching TV. Maybe you really didn't have time for lunch. Now, you find yourself eating more than your share of food. Maybe gaining a little bit too much weight. Hopefully, you didn't develop any bad habits as a result of your job loss.
So, the above mentioned, are some of the mental and physical changes that will happen to you when you go on unemployment. Hopefully, it will not last to long and you will find another job real soon.
The main thing is not to go off the deep end here. Keep your cool. Accept and process those bad feelings so that you can move on with your life. Strive to keep a healthy lifestyle. Decide what you want to do with your life. Now is not the time to fall apart. You need to make some difficult decisions about what is next. So, just do it!
