Unemployment Woes

Langley Cornwell
Unemployment in South Carolina hit an all-time high last month, setting a state record at 11.5 percent. This unemployment rate marks a 14 month run of steady incline, with the number of unemployed workers in the state reaching nearly 253,000 people.

The national unemployment rate rose to 8.9 percent.

This sad situation calls for a haiku or two or three.

Mercy, mercy me
I need a good J-O-B
Someone help me please

I need to work now
Money's getting very tight
May I cut your grass?

Unemployment woes
Wearing only hand-me-downs
Good old boys are proud

They say it's getting better in the UK. Not sure about that...

Thanks for sharing your three haikus. I always enjoy your articles and at least during these tough times it is great that we all have AC to help us generate some extra cash.

Those about sum it up.....Michigan has been suffering for a few years now and recently hit over 12% unemployment....and it's true, it ain't over yet.

Wow! 11.5 percent! Ah, but it's only a recession (right!). I worked about one month for the census - maybe a month and a half. Other than that, I have been out of work for 10 months now. In good ole VA.

Times are tough and you are right, South Carolina has been hit particularly hard.

Great poems--the middle one is my favorite. My area (Kansas City) hasn't been hit quite as hard as a lot of other parts of the country. I sure hope the situation improves ASAP.

Excellent (3) haikus. Yes, it's bad here, too. The only job I was able to get was a substitute position in the local school district. It is 2/3 less than what I made at ATT and is only a few days a month--but better than nothing I guess.
