Unexplained Phenomena: Real Live Ghost Stories

Heather K. Adams
This morning's strange news involves a top ten list of unexplained phenomena. You can see the top ten unexplained phenomena list here.

In this top ten unexplained phenomena list, most people have experienced at least deja vu and intuition. While unexplained, deja vu and intuition are pretty common phenomena. But I've also experienced truly unexplained phenomena that isn't so common: a true haunting. Not only have I experienced ghosts as a child, but also as an adult.

Unexplained Phenomena: The ghost at my bedside

As a child, I remember very clearly waking up in the middle of the night to see a strange man standing at the foot of my bed. I could see through him, but he was clearly defined at the same time. He wore a yellow trench coat and a hat.

This man came to my bedside night after night for an entire week. When I told my mom, she said my sister had the same "dream". I insisted it wasn't a dream, but rather an apparition. When I spoke to my dad about it, he said it was common for men building houses as old as ours was (we lived on an old farmhouse) to die during its construction.

Unexplained Phenomena: The ghost in my mother's house

After my father died, my mother, sister and I moved into town. We bought a house that was rumored to be haunted: lights would turn on by themselves at night and strange noises were reported by the neighbors. We found out that a man named Albert had indeed died in the house.

At first, nothing seemed out of the ordinary. But just a few months later, during our first Christmas there in the house, things started to happen. My mother had a very annoying Christmas frog that would croak Jingle Bells when its hand was pushed, and that Christmas frog would go off at odd times during the day. It didn't matter if someone was in the room or not. We were all sitting in the living room - no one was near the Christmas frog - and it suddenly went off. My mother would say, "Albert! Knock it off!" and the Christmas frog would quit playing, mid-song. The Christmas frog would even go off after Mom put it away in a cabinet and took the batteries out. If that's not unexplained phenomena, I don't know what is!

Albert also gave us "shadow people" who would walk across the living room wall. Someone tried to explain it away that it was caused by people walking on the street, or even as far away as the alley, but the shadow people also occurred with the heavy drapes closed.

Only once did Albert ever grace us with his ghostly presence, and again it was during Christmas time. My boyfriend Chris was visiting, and while he and I were sitting on my bed to say good night, he froze and his face got very white. When I asked him what was wrong, he said there was a man behind me. By the time I turned around, the "man" was gone, but I know it was our ghost, Albert.

Unexplained Phenomena: Deja vu

While writing this article, I had a sudden sense of deja vu, as if I had written this article before. Coincidence, or unexplained phenomena... ?

A very intriguing article. I've known other people who have had strange occurances. Have you seen any since you write this article?

Well, Heather...this is stranger than your story...I started to read this and realized I had already read it and remember leaving a comment about the shadow people! As I look at the comments, though, I see my comment is not here! So...I will try again! I believe every word you say because I know it is true! I have to take the lumps as a believer and it is always nice to see other people know as well! I already knew Crystal was aware and I like that others can speak on this, too! Love this story!

These "phenomena," particularly ghosts, aren't a mystery (unexplained); they're clearly explained how to be understood in the Bible, Heather.

I've had many paranormal experiences. In one of my homes an invisible being would sit on my bed. I could feel the side of the bed go down, but I couldn't see anything. After that the covers would tighten around me. I started calling this being 'the bed sitter'. I've had too many experiences to mention here. Thanks for sharing your experiences. Some wouldn't believe it if a ghost bit them on the @$$, but if they aren't open to the possibility they'll never notice anyway.

I believe in ghosts. My parents rented an old house for a vacation. My brother was sleeping in one of the rooms and once when he woke up there was a strange woman rocking in the rocking chair in the room. Also, once when my husband was sleeping he dreamed that his grandmother came by his bedside to say goodbye. In the morning, when my husband woke up, he learned that his grandmother had died during the night.

I love real-life ghost stories! Freaky stuff, Heather. At least Albert was harmless. :)
