Union Coercion Supports Obama at Virginia Campaign Event

Snidely Whiplash
Recently I was shocked to be recited a first person accounting of a Virginia gubernatorial campaign event that took place in the run up to the November 2009 Virginia elections. NJ and VA are the only two states to hold "off-year" gubernatorial elections every four years. As such, they are used as bellwethers for future political realities.

The Va gubernatorial election was between popular Republican and eventual winner Bob McDonnell and not so popular Va politico, Democrat Creigh Deeds. In the run up to the election on the first Tuesday, November last, Obama came to Va to campaign and stir up the base to get out and vote for the Democrat. We all know how it turned out - Democrat Deeds was whipped like a redheaded step-child.

But here's the meat. My friend is a member of the Communication Worker's of America, the CWA, a very powerful and influential union. Here are the facts as reported directly to me by a person who was there and stood 25 feet from Obama during the entire event.

My friend was paid a full eight hour salary of nearly $30.00 per hour to attend the event at the urging of the powers that be that run Democrat politics and specifically the CWA. This event occurred on a scheduled work day, but the union member was given a day off with pay to go to the event. That's nearly $250.00 cash money that we customers had to put up, no? And my friend was only one of many, many, many who were paid by the CWA to go and show their support.

In fairness my friend stated Obama is a powerful and charismatic speaker, and it was indeed "thrilling" to be so close to such history and power, but that's where the admiration ends. My friend repeated some of the goings on and it is telling for sure.

Mr. Obama mentioned the geographic location as an area of Virginia that is "minority rich." Nice, huh? So how would it work out if a white politico made mention of an area being "minority rich" or worse for the politic who said it, a "minority poor" area? Think that would fly, or would such a statement have heard calling for the head of the utterer to be lopped off and tossed to the bottom of the sea? Nice how race gets to be such an important part of politics as long as the gum flapper is a minority, or a vocal supporter. Yeah, that's the "colorblindness" Dr. King went on and on about, right folks? BS!

I asked my friend about the Cadillac health care CWA union members enjoyed and was told that the audience of Democrat supporters all acknowledged they had "Cadillac" health plans but that reform was needed for "others." Yeah, that's that "A recession is when my neighbor is laid off. A depression is when I lose MY job!" What BS.

In my mind the real telling part of all this was the full time pay the CWA members were awarded for attending the event. If fair were fair, they would have also paid CWA members to attend a Republican campaign event. Anyone willing to put their hard earned ducats down on that bet? No? Yeah, that's what I thought too!

Unions support Democrats because that's where they live. The marriage of unions and Democrat politics is as unnatural as a man marrying his goat and showing up on Jerry Springer to be laughed at in front of the world. As one who is a customer of firms that employ CWA union workers, that means I and all of that particular firms customers paid for their employees to be paid nearly $30.00 an hour to go to a Democrat campaign event.

That means I in effect paid for all those hundreds of CWA employees to go to a Democrat campaign event. Am I pissed? Can ya tell? I mean Hell, I wouldn't give Democrat politicos my used toilet paper, so I sure as Hell wouldn't give them my money - WILLINGLY!

Just a parting thought for my Democrat supporter friends. Do you fine folks see how underhanded and duplicitous this is? Would it seem cool with you fine individuals if the tables were turned and a union paid hundreds of workers a full days pay at $30.00 per hour each to go to a Republican campaign event? I bet there would be screaming and histrionics the likes of which we usually see from them when they get all outraged.

As well, rest assured this lays to rest all the Leftward political speak about "big corporate money and government," right my Democrat supporting friends? I mean, that is a relatively common lament from Democrat supporters, no?

As I am sure Democrats are in fact fine and upstanding Americans, for whom fair play is the paramount concern, they will come out against this event, right? I mean, good for the goose, good for the gander and all that? Level playing field and such? Complete equity? Above board actions and intentions?

The Democrat Party and Unions are as involved as Tiger Woods on a young model. And the reader will hopefully recall this piece the next time some Democrat politico goes on and on about corporate money and influence in politics.

Perhaps the reader will remember that they seem to have no problem at all when Unions spend God knows how much money to buy a seat at the table, and spend a fortune to have their employees be paid a full days pay to go to a one hour Democrat campaign event, and then have me foot the bill through my account when I pay for the service I contract from them. Nice, huh?

Plus, the union workers were invited to the Great One's lovely little job summit to the exclusion of the National Chamber of Commerce, whose members include millions of American workers.

Consider my stupidity corrected. Wish they'd put the spell check on the title field too! Now, should I delete the comments that point to my stupidity? Shit, why bother now, right? See why I only publish as "display only?" No editor means I rely on your fine folks to hook me up! LOL
