However, what annoys me is the Tea Party demonizing unions. Let's be objective about this, folks. If you were out of work and looking for a job, you would be trying to get the highest wages or salary you could get. If you have a family with children, you have an obligation to support them. Looking for the highest wages one could get is an integral part of our capitalistic society. So is getting the most benefits you can get. CEO receive huge bonuses. Some CEO's receive upwards of 10 million dollars in a single year. The hypocrisy is unbelievably obvious.
The Tea Party and the Republicans are effectively saying that capitalism is only for the professionals and that the unskilled and semi-skilled workers don't have the right to seek the highest wages and best benefits they could get.
Now imagine you are an unemployed wage earner who never had the opportunity to attend college because you came from a poor family. You fell madly in love with a girl and married her. You have one child to support. You apply for a job and find out it is a closed union shop offering you $25.00 per hour and great medical benefits for a laborer's position. Would you refuse it because you thought the wages were too high or because you thought you didn't deserve the benefits? No way! If your wife found out you refused such a generous offer from a local company, she'd be furious and she would have a right to be furious. Wouldn't she?
So if you are angry with the unions, that's okay. But be honest about it. You would not refuse that job. I know I wouldn't. I wouldn't care about inflation. I wouldn't care about anything except taking care of my family. I'd hold on to that job for as long as I could. And who could blame me? As a US citizen, I have the right to seek out the highest wages I could get. Denying me that right is violating the basic principles of capitalism that the Tea Party and the Republican Party strongly advocate . . . at least for those who contribute millions of dollars in campaign money.
Want to talk about fairness? Okay. Consider the state governor who is trying to destroy the unions in Wisconsin. Consider the Tea Party HR Representatives who are demonizing the union workers. How much are they earning per year? Not just from their job. Their total income. Close to a million dollars a year? Do they really deserve that kind of income?
Companies attracted unions by treating their workers like garbage, not giving any benefits, providing unhealthy working conditions, abusing workers rights and providing dirt-low wages. Think about it.
Cycles repeat. And as long as bad working conditions and low wages exist, unions will thrive. Parts of these opinions were published by me on Facebook.

Post a CommentIt is an interesting time in our history. It will be interesting to see how things unfold.
well done, I am still trying to catch up after the crash.
Very interesting John. I remember when I was working in corporate America. The union was allowed to come in, but there were some strange restrictions on them. It did not work out well for employnto our coees and eventually, the union died. I was not a part of it, but I remember employees being very concerned that they were really not benefiting from them being there. Strange situation.
