Unique April Holidays

My search on holidays for the month of April included the Passover, Easter, and the Earth Day. Surprisingly included for this month are holidays that are rather queer and unique. Here are a few.

April 4: Bonza Bottler Day
This is a special day actually celebrated every month when the number of the month coincides with the number of day like January 1, February 2, March 3 and so on. A bigger celebration is called for when the year also coincides with the number of the month and day, example April 4, 2004. That means more food, more drinks, more friends, more decorations.

Created by Elaine Fremont in 1985, Bonza Bottler Day got its name through a contest she held when she realized that there were no special occasions to celebrate one month. An Australian student won the contest. The student combined two Australian slang --Bonza which means "super" or "great, and Bottler which means "something excellent"

Some offices and schools celebrate it by bringing food to share. Cards and e-mails are now being sent internationally to greet friends and loved ones on this day.

April 7: No Housework Day
There is no known history for this, but Holidayinsights.com suggests two ways of celebrating this special day:

1. If you normally do the housework at home, cease and desist for this day. This means kicking your shoes away, relax and enjoy. No doing the laundry. No vacuuming of the carpet. No cleaning of the windows and floors. No doing the dishes.

2. If you are a spouse or significant other, do the housework for your partner. Give him or her a break, and be a hero this time.

Can you imagine that? You simply relaxing? What would you rather do? Perhaps get cuddled up and finish a book you've been wanting to read. Or get on with your knitting and knit away for all you want. You can plop yourself on your favorite chair, with a pile of DVD's next to you so you can watch your favorite movies, one after the other. Call your friends and stay for hours on the phone laughing and catching up. Just glorious relaxation and enjoyment sans the chores that you are so fed up sometimes.

April 12: Big Wind Day
This commemorates the highest wind speed ever recorded on the planet. Recorded on April 12, 1934 was the highest surface wind ever measured, anywhere on the earth. The staff of the Mount Washington were the ones who recorded this. The official record was 231 miles per hour.

This record might have been broken, but still the commemoration of that extremely high win in 1934 is still celebrated every 12th of April.

April 5: National Fun at Work Day
This is a cool one because people would get to really get to spend their work in a unique and fun way. Already being done in some schools, people may come to work wearing crazy hats, funny clothes, or weird hair color. Creative contests and fun games can be held during breaks.

The celebration started in 1996 with the intention of making employees' performance, health and productivity be enhanced or improved by adding by humor and fun in the work place. Some people can be very creative in celebrating this day. One company in Kansas was said to have transformed an office parking lot into a beach, complete with sand, sunglasses and music.

This is very interesting, because a work place can sometimes be very serious and boring. Putting a little humor and fun could break that monotony and could bring a sense of creativity and enjoyment.

April 28: Kiss Your Mate Day
This is the perfect day to smooch your partner. Others might find it weird to have a special day for kissing your loved one, but still someone decided to have one special day for taking that extra time to really remember the importance of this expression of affection.

Perhaps this would make people kiss not just for the sake of doing it like a regular routine. Or maybe, this could remind others to reestablish the habit of doing this sweet act.
