Surprisingly, the Denver area really has some incredible Asian restaurants for locals and visitors who would love a night out feasting on some authentic fare. Many restaurants feature Asian-fusion menus that will please people who like dishes from one country, but may not like specialties from another. They have a choice now.

Pattaya's dishes are truly authentic, cooked up and supervised by a Thai woman and her aunt. The dishes are flavored with herbs, cucumber, coconut and coconut milk, chilies, lemon grass and sesame, creating the unique Thai flavors that are so distinctive. Their appetizers all under $4.00, with the exception of one Gai Yang, which is priced at just $5.95, and could be a meal within itself. All their soups have a touch of galanga, kaffir leaves and lemon grass. Tom Yum Banana Blossom soup sounds like a heavenly concoction with banana blossoms, mushrooms and onions for just $5.95. They have the traditional noodle and curry dishes cooked in uniquely Thai fashion, but it's the entrees that sound most authentic of all, using cashews, basil, cucumbers and lots of fresh vegetables. The most expensive dinner entree is just $8.25 for a fried catfish with chili sauce and sweet basil. And for someone who has never tasted Thai green tea or coconut ice cream, it's a must taste treat! They're open from 11-9, Mon.-Sat. For people who need take out, it's free for all orders above $12.

US Thai Cafe prides itself on using the best and most authentic Thai seasonings, herbs and cooking methods available in a restaurant. Their appetizers are all under $6.00, but its salads are very special. One uses green papaya, lemon green bean and peanut in a Thai blend. Their menu features fried rice, noodles, many curries, and stir-fries. The three house specials are very interesting. One is a seafood medley with ginger and basil for $13.95. The prices are quite reasonable here as well.

New Saigon really has a vast menu and they specialize in their distinctive seafood dishes. It's open Sun, Tue. -Thu. from 11:00 am. to 9:30pm and Fri. & Sat. from 11:00am. to 10:00pm. They're closed on Mondays. They serve frog legs, mussels and fish, lamb, crab and scallop dishes in their seafood selections. City search reviewers say that trying some of the unusual offerings is a good idea, since so many unique flavors are highlighted in these. All of the crab dishes are $28 and the crab sautéed with tamarind sauce sounded intriguing. The Bun (noodle) specialties, if they are as good as the ones I've had in my town, should really be sampled, even if you don't care for noodles. There's one that I get here constantly and it makes an entire two meals: Grilled pork and egg roll topped on rice noodles, cucumbers, lettuce and bean sprouts. All that is covered with chopped peanuts and served with a Vietnamese fish sauce--absolutely delicious for just $6.95. And they have lunch specialties for just $5.95, served from 11-4 daily. Contact them at 303-936-4954.
