Unique Baby Shower Theme Ideas

Planning out a baby shower is exciting. One of the first things you need to do is decide on a baby shower theme. If you would like a unique theme for the baby shower you are throwing, read on.

Seasonal Theme: A spring baby shower can be decorated in pastel colors, with lots of flowers and baby animals. A summer themed shower will need bright, primary colors. Gifts for the baby can include little sunglasses, sandals, and sunhats. A fall shower will have colors of orange, yellow, brown, and red. A winter shower will be in colors of pine green, white, gold, and red. If one of the guests knows how to knit, a blanket, sweater, or booties all make nice warm winter presents.

Baby's First Year Theme: For an activity for this shower you can have guests design scrapbook pages for each month in the new baby's first year. For a game, you can pass out sheets that list major milestones in a baby's first year, such as smile, coo, sit, crawl, first word, and walk. Guests can guess at which age an average baby does each of these things. The guest who gets the most right wins a prize! You can also do a long-term version of the guess the baby's weight game. Have each guest write down their guesses for the baby's weight each of his first 12 months. Each month, the best guess gets a prize! Gifts for the new baby should span her first year. Get clothes in a range of sizes until 12 months. Get toys that range from rattles to teethers to push toys for when the new baby is learning to walk. Get some feeding utensils for when baby starts solid foods. Someone can also get a pack of diapers in different sizes, from size 1 to size 3 (those are the sizes most likely to fit within baby's first year).

All about Mom Theme: This is technically not a baby shower, but can possibly be its own party in addition to a baby shower. For this shower, all gifts are for the mom-to-be! Get gift cards to restaurants, her favorite store, a spa, or a certificate for maid service. Other gift ideas include a box of gourmet tea or coffee, lotion sets. This shower can be held at a spa where the mother-to-be can get a massage (make sure the spa knows she's pregnant). Instead of the typical baby shower games, play board games (or video games!) that the mom-to-be likes.

Memories Theme: This shower is all about making and preserving memories. For one of the shower activities,
pass out a sheet of cardstock to each guest. Have a bunch of scrapbooking supplies, such as stamps, ink, pens, stickers, and embellishments, set out on a table for everyone to use. Each person designs one page and leaves spaces for photos of the baby. Put all the pages together into an album. When the baby is born, the mom can insert photos in the scrapbook album. Another activity is to give everyone an index card. Have them write their favorite memory of the mom to be, except, have them address it to the baby. Gifts can include memory books, a baby's first year calendar, picture albums, a baby handprint or footprint molding kit, and gift certificates to a photo printing website. Finally, make sure to take lots of pictures of this shower and make a scrapbook of the day.
