Wine.
Yes, you heard me wine. We, as a society, tend to toast all the important milestones and occasions in our lives with some sort of drink. Why not set your favorite newlyweds up with their own basket or box of toasting bottles?
There are 2 great ways to do this, and I have done it both ways. For the first way you will need the following:
A basket (large enough to fit all the bottles of wine)
1 bottle of champagne
8 bottles of wine (wines of your choice)
Ribbon, fabric, wrapping paper or wine bags in the following colors: lace, silver, blue, gold, white, green, purple, pink and red.
Large cellophane gift bag or paper.
Tags with the parts of the poem written on it and attached to each individual bottle OR a fully typed out poem attached to the outside of the basket:
A basket of wine for a special pair - wrapped in all different colors for you both to share.
We hope that you are both always as happy as today. Please share this wine just the way that we say.
First, drink the champagne - the bottle all wrapped in lace - on your first married night in your new chosen place.
The silver one you must wait to unseal 'til you have your first guests over for a meal.
Love as you might, you'll have your first fight... Drink the blue one while you make up all night.
The gold bottle is for Thanksgiving; to toast to the love-filled life you are living.
The winters in your hometown might get a bit cold, drink the white bottle during your first snowfall.
The green bottle's for Christmas, so put up your tree, drape the ceilings in mistletoe and get tipsy
On January 1st, while sharing some kisses, drink the purple bottle to toast the New Year as Mr.. and Mrs..
Drink the pink bottle, romantic and sweet, when it's time for your newlywed Valentine's treat.
And when your first year of marriage is done, drink the red bottle in honor of anniversaries to come.
Cheers to Bride and Groom on the start of their lives together - may this basket of wine symbolize the beginning of your forever.
Decorate each bottle of wine with your corresponding color (I tend to use ribbon as I think it's just easier but you can use any of the items listed above) and tag (if you choose to tag instead of doing the full poem), then arrange bottles in your basket. Once all bottles are in the basket, wrap the entire gift in cellophane and tie off with some of your extra ribbon. Attach the poem (if you are using the poem) or a card explaining the gift.
This second way I have done as a member of a bridal party, each bridesmaid was responsible for a bottle of wine. There was only 5 of us, but the bride's mother wanted to do the last one for the first baby so she joined us as well. If you have more than 6 members of your bridal party, you could make up some other "firsts" for the newlyweds to celebrate or have more than one bridesmaid responsible for a bottle.
For this gift you will need:
6 Bottles of wine
6 tags or cards with poem printed and attached to each bottle.
Ribbon or decoration if wanted.
The poems that are attached to each bottle:
( Bridesmaids can read as they present the gift to the bride.)
Wedding Night
The night you have dreamed of is finally here
The future surrounds you with hope and yet fear
You've wanted so long to find your perfect mate
Sip this wine and toast this perfect date
The night is meant for you to share
Enjoy each other - a perfect pair!!
First Fight
When fights occur and tempers get hot
Pour a glass and be thankful for what you've got
If you always agreed it would certainly be a bore
And by asking for ________'s s hand __________ is surely
in for more!
First Anniversary
Been married a year, where did the time go?
No longer newlyweds, now you are pros
Hope the days found you in good health and
good spirit
Keep saying I love you -
one always needs to hear it!
Now toast this first date, it's certainly not the last
And as you build your future don't ever forget
the past!
First Dinner Party
Open your home to entertain and eat
Catch up with old friends and new ones to meet
When the night is over share this bottle of wine
But don't sit down yet - it's clean up time!!
Christmas Eve
A wise man said wine is better than beer
And now is the season for lots of holiday cheer
So pop the cork and relax a bit,
And when the night is through,
Kiss goodnight, close your eyes
And Santa will be good to you!
First Baby
The news that a baby will soon share your life
will make you a mother, not only a wife
You'll see it through good times and sometimes
through bad
______ the loving mother
and _____ the dearest dad
Sadly _____ (groom) must drink this one alone, and _____(bride) with an empty glass
Sit back and relax - nine months will quickly pass!
Brides and bridal shower guests LOVE this!! Prepare to be a hit at your shower!
