Starting a business in a unique niche can be both fun and profitable. If you start a business that is unique from others then you have a larger market of purchasers because you have less competition from other businesses. While you don't want a business that is so obscure that you do not find a lot of need/want for it, you can make a lot of money if you find something unique that people are really interested in. Some ideas to help you start thinking about unique business ideas are:

Growing Unique Herbs or Flowers - Most all areas now have farmer's markets. At these markets you can sell your home grown herbs or flowers and make a nice profit. If you have a green-thumb, and I assure you many of us do not, then you can grow unique herbs and flowers and people will pay a nice price for them. You can also dry your herbs and sell them at either the markets or via online websites such as eBay. (If you live in a rural area and can have chickens, fresh eggs also do very well at a farmer's market.)

Doggy Do Clean-Up - While it sounds weird, there are people out there making very good money cleaning up after people's dogs. With this business you would visit the homes of dog owners on a set schedule and clean up all of the dog waste in their yards. Because of the "ick" factor, this business can be very profitable.

Small-Group Instruction (Children) - Working with homeschool families I grew to understand there is a very large need for people to teach their unique knowledge to homeschooled children. Homeschoolers love to take fieldtrips and learn new things that the parents may not know. Maybe you have animals on your property, have a college degree in something interesting, or maybe you can cook or can? Any of these make great small-group instruction activities. And, as an added bonus you do not need a teaching certificate to help educate homeschoolers.

Small-Group Instruction (Adults) - Most active adults are always on the lookout for new and exciting things to learn about and learn to do. Take your unique skills such as knitting, sewing, scrapbooking, growing foods, etc... and teach others what you know. You can teach adult classes through Adult Education Centers, Local Community Colleges or even out of your home.

Ghostwriting - Due to the huge explosion of the internet there are many websites who need articles and information written for them. Many of these websites turn to ghostwriters to write for them.
