Unique Christmas Albums

Christmas songs are by far one of many people's favorite parts of the season. Radio stations will devote their entire holiday season playlist to broadcasting these tunes, ranging from old favorite hymns to newer versions of Baby, It's Cold Outside. Meant to warm spirits and encourage people to enjoy the holiday festivities to the utmost, these Christmas songs have inspired countless bands and solo musicians to record their own cover versions of the same Christmas songs. Many of these Christmas albums start to sound the same for the most part, simply because there are only so many ways that a song can be sung and still sound pleasing. However, for anyone who is seeking some Christmas spirit that is just a tad bit out of the ordinary, here is a list of artists and their song covers that are unique and still full of Christmas cheer.

1) Jars of Clay's Christmas album is a two year old album full of this older bands renditions of popular Christmas carols. Entitled Christmas Songs, the album has a full fourteen song soundtrack which ensures that you as the listener get your money's worth out of your purchase. My personal favorite song on this album is Jar's of Clay's Hibernation Day, a fun, cheerful song about staying warm and cozy inside during the colder winter months.

2) Another unique Christmas album available on the market today is a combination project of several post hardcore bands and some not-so-traditional covers on Christmas songs. The Taste of Christmas project is certainly unlike any other Christmas CD and will delight any of your emo/post hardcore friends. Bands on this CD include Emery, Bleed the Dream, The Used, From First to Last, My American Heart, and more.

3) One of my personal and all time favorite Christmas songs is found on Happy Christmas Volme 2. The Happy Christmas soundtracks are all full of great Christmas covers from a huge variety of bands, from Fanmail to Joy Electric to Element to MxPx. The song list includes I Wish It Would Be Christmas Everyday, O, Come All Ye Faithful, and White Christmas, but my favorite of all of these songs is the Normals cover of Peace Child (O Come Emmanuel). This song is full of peace and encouragement, feelings that should always accompany the Christmas season.

Finally, iTunes has decided to give out a free Christmas album this year, available for download off of their iTunes store. Patrons should, however, hurry to download their own copy, as this is only a limited time offer.
