Unique Christmas Tree Decorating Ideas

Elena dal Friuli
As we are all unique individuals, why not use our individuality to decorate the Christmas tree?

Here are some ideas that you might want to consider or use to generate other ideas to create a Christmas tree that is as distinctive as you are.

Academic Tree

Perhaps you are a professor or a graduate student at a local university.

You could decorate your tree by using little trinkets and models of items in your particular area of work and study. For example, if you are a history professor or student, you may want to decorate the tree with items representing several centuries of history or the time period you like the most.

Professional Tree

Each profession has certain items that distinguish it from other professions.

Use those items to decorate your Christmas tree. Are you a doctor or a nurse? Use medical equipment models to adorn the tree. Are you a seamstress? Use model of items you use in your profession.

The possibilities are as endless as the professions in existence today.

Comic Book Tree

Are you a comic book fan? Do you have a favorite character? You can decorate your tree by using figurines of your favorite comic book.

Traveler Tree

If you like to travel, chances are that in each location you have visited, you have purchased something small as a memento of your trip. Why not use those items on your Christmas tree this year? To add to its interesting display, you may want to hang small cards that give a summary of your trip, or perhaps the funniest or most embarrassing moments. This tree will surely bring the family together as you travel back in time and revisit those locations.

Famous Quotes Tree

Are you hooked on famous quotes? Do you start and finish the day with at least one quote?

You can use the array of quotes you have already collected to decorate the tree. Print them out on card stock of different colors and hang them on the tree; or print them out on thin paper making sure that the whole quote will fit in the circular form (the diameter of a clear Christmas ball) you will cut and place inside a ball. You can also type the quotes on parchment like paper that you will then cut and roll to give it the feel of a scroll before hanging it on the tree. For this last one, make sure you open the scroll again so you can read the quote once on the tree.

Family Tree

If you are a genealogist enthusiast, you might choose to decorate the tree with as many pictures of family members, encompassing your ancestors and your descendants, as you are able to locate. Add cards with anecdotes about their lives and your tree will have a life of its own.

For all decorations requiring models (see first four tree types) you may want to check out your local Dollar Stores or Oriental Trading site. If you cannot find small replicas of the objects, you can always print them out on card stock paper, cut the shape out, add the ribbon or fishing line and hang them on the tree. You can also paste the pictures on Christmas balls made out of card stock to give variety to your display.

Use tinsel and or ribbons that match colors and/or themes to drape the tree.

Remember that your imagination is your limit. Let if flow, brainstorm with your family and friends and you will be able to create a Christmas tree that will last in your memory for a very long time.
