Unique and Creative Ways to Use Chewing Gum

Chewing Gum Isn't Just for Chewing!

Dina Montgomery
I remember as a kid always chewing on a piece gum. Still to this day I enjoy a piece of chewing gum from time to time. I'm sure that there are plenty of other people around that like chewing on gum, but did you ever stop to think that you could put an ordinary piece of chewing gum to good use? Here we will go over some of the unique and creative ways to use chewing gum.

Unique and creative ways to use chewing gum: Retrieve items

This may sound silly, but I have had to do this trick numerous amount of times. An earring has fallen down the bathroom drain or maybe a ring, instead of taking apart the bathroom sink drain, you can retrieve it with a piece of just-chewed chewing gum.

Tie a string to the end of a fishing weight and place the sticky gum to the bottom of the weight. Now all you have to do is let the gum take hold of your earring or ring and reel it in to safety.

Unique and creative ways to use chewing gum: Repair cracks

If you have an item that needs repair from a crack, you can use chewing gum. You don't need to repair a crack on a clay flower pot or on a dog bowl with expensive repair products, chewing gum will work just fine. Just place the sticky chewing gum in the crack and let it dry. This is a great way to save a little extra cash because you don't need to run down to the home improvement store to buy anything, it's already handy.

Unique and creative ways to use chewing gum: Use as temporary window putty

You can use a piece or two of freshly chewed gum to act as a temporary fix for a loose window pane. Now you won't have to worry about the glass falling and breaking before you can get to the hardware store to permanently fix the problem.

Unique and creative ways to use chewing gum: Relieve heartburn and gas

Chewing a piece of spearmint gum can relieve unsettling stomach gases and heartburn. The oils in the spearmint gum act as an antiflatulent, and it also acts as a digestive aid as well. Chewing the gum will increase the production of saliva, which will neutralize the stomach acid and help to correct the flow of digestive juices.

Chewing gum is great for fixing simple repairs around the house, so try some chewing gum next time you come across any of these problems, it works great.

When I saw this article's title, my first reaction was: "Oh, man, I can't wait to read this one." I once plugged a leaking fuel pump with a pack of Bubblicious--it worked long enough to get me home from college. :)
