Unique Designer Jeans for Toddler Girls

Finding really unique clothes for your toddler girl can be frustrating and expensive. If you can sew a straight line, you can create some really unique designer jeans for your little girl from her old clothes or from hand me downs that are still in great condition. If you can't sew a stitch, ask a friend, mother, grandparent or even a teenager who might be in a sewing class at school to do it for you for a couple dollars. You will still save a bundle and end up with a one of kind look for your daughter.

Ever notice how your child grows up but not so much out. From 6 months to 3 years old, kids seem to get taller but lose a little weight in the middle proportionately. My son and my daughter were still able to wear their 6-month size pants at 3 years old, but the bottoms came up to their knees, kind of like crop pants. Find a patterned material that you really like, or that matches an existing top she may already have. If you choose a thin cotton material, you will want to get an additional fabric to pad the back in order to give it a thick feel and to weigh down the bottom of the pants. You will cut the fabric in a 4 to 5 inch strip to make a cuff for the bottom of the pants depending on the overall length you need. The cuff will provide the extra length your child needs in the pants while creating that designer look. Don't forget to take into account about ¼ or ½ inch for seems. You will lose at least ¼ to ½ inch where you will sew the pants and the cuff together as well as in the hem at the bottom of the cuff. Don't forget you will lose some of the length on the jeans as well when you sew the cuff and the jeans together.

if you lay your jeans flat and measure the bottom of the pant leg from seem to seem, add about ½ inch to that for the total length of your material strip. Then you are ready to cut your material. If you want a small flare to the bottom of the pants, make the hem side of the strip a little longer than the cuff that you will sew to the bottom of the pant leg.

This is a really easy project and it also is a great idea for taking hand me down boy jeans and converting them to girl's pants. Now you will have no excuse for throwing out the boys clothes and buying for the girls, or making them dress like a boy.
