Disney Princess Costume Ideas
To make a unique Belle Disney princess costume from "Beauty and the Beast," get a yellow prom or formal dress for your child. Sew the skirt into gathers or add a layer of sheer fabric such as chiffon or tulle to the top of the skirt. If you like, you can sew your child's dress from scratch using a pattern such as Simplicity 0643. Be sure to make a few minor alterations to keep your child's costume unique. For example, try attaching pink or yellow roses to the bodice and skirt of the dress. Find some long yellow gloves. Tie the front part of your child's hair up in a bun at the back of the head, and allow the rest to hang loose around her shoulders. Place a yellow ribbon around the base of the bun. Make a homemade Belle tiara with a metallic gold chenille stem.
For a unique Cinderella Disney princess costume, get a medium or light blue satin dress for your child. If the dress has sleeves, remove them. If you're sewing your child's Cinderella costume, you can use McCall's pattern 6810. Attach lighter blue puff sleeves at the shoulders and attach a small light blue satin or chiffon overskirt at the waist. Make a choker necklace out of a blue ribbon. Get some large circular light blue clip-on earrings. Tie your child's hair up in a bun or style a blond wig in a Cinderella hair style. Tie the hairdo with a blue ribbon, or if you prefer, get a silver-toned rhinestone tiara to go with the costume. Finish your child's Cinderella Halloween costume with a pair of clear plastic slippers.
For a very unique Disney princess Halloween costume, make a Mulan costume. Find a light pink satin robe and attach some brighter pink or purple trim to the inner edge. Also get a bright pink or red sash and tie it around the child's waist with a pink or purple ribbon. Style your child's hair in a straight hair style or find a long dark and straight wig. Place pink silk cherry blossom flowers in her hair. Add red or pink slippers and dangling gold-toned clip on earrings to make your child's Mulan costume complete.
Disney Prince Costume Ideas
Prince Naveen from "The Princess and the Frog" can provide you with inspiration for a unique Disney prince costume. Get some blue tights or leggings and a long light green jacket. Add a white or ivory stand-up collar and white pleated puff sleeves to the jacket. Find a white or ivory cape to match the collar and sleeves of the jacket. Also sew some decorative embroidered blue trim in three strips across the closure of the jacket. Add a blue belt with a white flower with a yellow or gold center for a belt buckle.
For another unique Disney prince Halloween costume, you could make an Aladdin prince costume. Get a white shirt with balloon sleeves and some white harem pants or warm up pants. Sew some tubes from gold fabric around long strips of foam. Sew these tubes to the shirt. Also attach gold trim at the neckline of the shirt. Then find a gold sash to tie around your child's waist. Make a base for the Prince Aladdin turban from paper mache using measurements of your child's head as a guide. Wrap white satin fabric around the paper mache. Attach some gold trim horizontally across the turban base. Attach a faux purple jewel and a purple feather at the center of the gold trim on the turban. Also attach a short white drape to the base of the turban at the back. Add a white cape to finish your child's Disney prince Aladdin costume.
Disney Fairy Costume Ideas
You can make an easy and unique Disney Tinkerbell fairy Halloween costume using a green halter top and miniskirt. You can also sew your own costume from scratch using Simplicity pattern 2872. If you're using the miniskirt and halter top, cut up the hem of the miniskirt to a jagged edge. Fashion a pair of insect wings using floral wire. Measure them to make sure they will fit easily on your child's back. Cover the wire wings with sheer white or light blue fabric. Use silver glitter paint to paint a pattern of veins on the wings. Get some green slippers and attach large white pom poms to the front. If you like, get a blond wig for your child, style it up in a bun and tie the bun with a ribbon. Get a simple slender wooden dowel to use as Tinkerbell's magic wand.
