Autumn Greeting Card
Creating your own greeting card with real autumn leaves and your own unique design.
Materials Needed:
Fresh fall leaves from outside (not dry)
Construction paper in fall colors (cocoa brown, gingerbread brown, maroon, pumpkin and mustard yellow)
Elmer's glue
Crayons (with a variety of colors and contrast of shades)
Scissors
Take the light brown construction paper and cut in half. Place a large leaf (such as a maple leaf) under the sheet of paper. Take a dark colored crayon and rub the crayon over the construction paper, over the leaf. It should leave behind an impression of the leave underneath. Start off by rubbing it softly as to pick up the larger details, then press harder, but not too hard to pick up the finer ones.
Cut out the "leaf" construction paper and paste on the dark brown paper, folded in half. You can use the other colors to create wavy borders around the card or cut out your own leaves. Include a note instead with Happy Autumn Greetings.
Harvest Pillows
Even if you don't have sewing or crafting skills, you will be able to do this project with little ease. Even children can partake in the fun. This is a project that must use parent supervision as this involves using a hot iron!
Materials needed:
Solid color pillowcases in the size of throw pillows with zippers on them.
Polyfil (or any polyester filling)
Iron-on patches in the shape of harvest produce
Iron
Find iron-on patches of shapes such as pumpkins, apples and gourds. Iron the patches on a solid color pillowcase. Make matching ones for couches and beds. You'll then stuff the pillowcases and zip them up.
Craft that Gives Back:
Who said that crafts are purely for decorative purposes? You can create a crafty project that gives back to those who are less fortunate than yourselves. It also teaches your child to appreciate what they have. This may be a craft you create near Thanksgiving, but it really can be during anytime in the fall.
Materials Needed:
Baskets
Ribbons
Fruits
Vegetables
Colored saran wrap
Start off the project by heading to the local farmer's or grower's market. Collect plenty of fruit and vegetables. When you get home, have the kids separate the produce evenly between the baskets. Use the colored saran wrap to cover the basket and keep the produce safe. Use the ribbons to create a big bow around the basket. Deliver to families in need or to the elderly.
