Unique Fall Travel Activities

Fall is a wonderful time of the year to travel. Leaves are starting to turn and fall travel becomes scenic. How many mountains and beautiful tree lines can you endure until you or the kids get bored? After a couple of hours you are going to need to do something. If you get bored on your destination this fall, here are a few unique travel activities that you might enjoy.

Short hike stops - If you are going on vacation, you should want to have just as much of an enjoyable time traveling as at your destination. A short hike can revitalize the driver as well as the passengers. As you are hiking, you can collect fall treasures.

Noticing trees - Make a game out of the passing scenery. Count how many different colors there are in one tree or in all the trees. See who can spot the tallest tree or the roundest tree. Keeping your mind off of what time it is and how long you have been driving will help the trip to be more enjoyable.

Leaf and tree books or a laptop - Bring along a couple of books about leaves and trees. If you are stopping along your route even for bathroom breaks, pick up leaves to match to the different varieties you find in the books. The children will love this. You can learn about nature as you are experiencing it. You will find out what trees live in certain areas. Your children will have a science lesson with a life adventure.

Shopping - Fall is a great time to do window shopping. You can walk through the streets without getting too hot and enjoy the window displays of the local shops. You might even find free samples at the candy stores or restaurants. Fall is a great time to shop because a lot of the little stores are getting ready for Christmas.

Draw - See who can draw the best landscape picture. Have everyone take a picture of what they are going to draw. Make a contest out of it. If no one likes to draw, let everyone have a chance to take a fall picture. Vote on the best picture.

Color - On road trips as a kid we would color pictures and make a book of what we saw with the colorings. This is a good way to keep everyone busy and creative.

Play games - When all else fails, play games on paper. The games could be hang man, connect the dots, or tic tac toe.

Find an activity everyone will enjoy as you go down the road to your vacation destination. Keep everyone busy so they will not be thinking of the travel time. These travel activities may just help ward off boredom and stress on the driver.
