Unique Family-Friendly Tourist Attractions: Dinosaur World Museum & Park

Lori Voth
Remember the other day when your friend was comparing the size of something to that of a dinosaur? You don't?!

Well regardless of whether or not this incident has escaped your memory, it is only one solid reason why you have been dreaming of the chance to really truly comprehend what something the size of a dinosaur would look like. The other reason being the obvious: Who wouldn't? Dinosaurs are amazing, surreal.

Ahhh -- The plant-eating Brachiosaurus who has gained great popularity in our modern day society from that endearing animated kids flick from several years ago, The Land Before Time.

Oh! And the paternal Chasmosaurus, the dinosaur identified by its giant head and shield-like mass of horns, who is suspected to have traveled in family groups with the older ones valiantly leading and guarding the younger little dinos.

And we can't forget Dilophosaurus -- You know, the guy who made an appearance in Jurassic Park? He was the tall lanky toothy one with the collar. The collar, though, was apparently added to the dinosaur for the film to make him look scarier and was not based on scientific evidence discovered about the true Dilophosaurus.

I know, I know, I've had the same thought on my mind as you have, for years now:
So many dinosaurs to appreciate and few authentic ways to do so!

That was until I recently discovered the existence of Dinosaur World. This exciting museum slash theme park attraction goes to great lengths-literally in attempt to educate people about these mysterious ancient creatures by actually creating a simulation of a dinosaur living environment.

Dinosaur World provides a unique way to learn about the Dinosaur species. Three parks located in Florida, Kentucky and Texas each boast to maintain an outdoor showcase of over 150 true to life sized dinosaurs scattered about the grounds to represent appropriately their suspected habitats according to scientific research. While the Dinosaurs do not appear realistic to the point of moving around all ominously and frighteningly (though that would be pretty cool), the ability to stand next to their full-size structures allows for a perspective that cannot quite be realized anywhere else.

Dinosaur World is enjoyable for the whole family and offers activities for children of all ages. Along with a tour of the showcase of giant Dinosaurs, visitors can play paleontologist and search for authentic fossils in a sandbox. The sandbox is rumored to contain such items as sharks teeth, sea urchins, dinosaur bone fragments, and coral; kids ages 3-12 for free with admission ticket and anyone outside of that range for two bucks extra are welcome to dig around in search of hidden treasures and may return home with three of their choice as Dinosaur World souvenirs.

If you have the occasion to be near one of the park locations, Dinosaur World makes for a great enjoyably educational family-friendly afternoon. Whether you are as enamored with Dinosaurs as I am or you simply are looking for something fun and quirky to do for a change, one thing is for sure, Dinosaur World, if anything offers an impressionable experience that is anything but typical.
