Unique & Fascinating Shows on the History Channel

The History Channel provides unique and educational television shows that are exciting, fascinating and entertaining. It was very difficult to choose only four shows to highlight in this article because all of the shows are equally enjoyable. I chose four shows which air on The History Channel that may not be as well known as others, such as Ice Road Truckers, to give you a glimpse of the other intriguing shows that The History Channel has to offer this season.

Ancient Discoveries airs on The History Channel on Thursday nights at 10:00 p.m. eastern standard time. For those of us who believe that we are far superior to our ancestors because of our technology, Ancient Discoveries may just change your opinion. Each week this popular History Channel show investigates ancient civilizations and the technology that they invented. When we think about ancient civilizations, we typically do not think about cars, robots and other machines that appear to have originated centuries ago. For example, the Greeks built the first railway during the sixth century B.C. and the Chinese crossbow was one of the earliest missile weapons that were mass-produced. Tune in every week for another episode, see how it affected history and our modern technology, and find out "Who Built It First?"

Warriors airs on Thursdays at 10:00 p.m. and takes a fascinating look at the world's most famous, and infamous, warriors in history. Empires have been formed and maintained on the strength of their armies and their warriors. The weapons they use are, of course, essential to the warrior but what really makes a warrior great is something that is born within him. Each week the host, Terry Schappert, will analyze a group of warriors (Vikings, English Knights, Maya, Alamo Scouts, etc.) to find out what made them powerful. The series evaluates the warriors, their weapons and their cultures. This is a fascinating look at some of the most powerful fighting men in history.

I have visited Underground Atlanta several times and it is amazing to me that above it lies the modern city of Atlanta while below is what is left of the city that was burned during the Civil War. Cities of the Underworld, airing on The History Channel each Monday at 9:00 p.m., explores what is beneath cities around the world such as the secret tunnels and vaults in Las Vegas to the Mafia's underground network in Sicily. Learn interesting facts such as the tunnels under Venice Beach were used to transport liquor during Prohibition. Each episode Don Wildman, the host, takes audiences to a different location to travel below the surface, literally, to discover what lies beneath our cities. The technology used to build such intricate underground tunnels, passages and rooms is amazing and shows just what is possible when humans are motivated by greed, fear or the quest for power.

Do you believe in Bigfoot, giant killer snakes or hogzilla? Monster Quest investigates creatures around the world each week using witness accounts, any available forensic evidence, photos and videos to figure out if these creatures exist. Cryptozoology is the study or science of hidden animals and this is what Monster Quest is all about - finding the truth about the world's most unique creatures. Each week the show uses everything they can find about a particular creature to analyze to separate the facts from speculation and hoax. It is a fascinating look at animals that most of us do not if know exist must less will ever see other than on this television show.
