Unique Gift Ideas for Father's Day!

Father's Day is going to be here shortly. I have talked to several fathers, asked them what they would love to get for Father's Day. The surprise? It was usually not something materialistic, but something sentimental. Here's a short list of answers I received from fathers on what the ideal or favorite Fathers Day gifts would be.

One popular response for a Father's Day gift, was the Coupon Book gift, which made me chuckle, I remember making one for my mother. In a coupon book, you could make a promise to do a chore that your father dislikes. A father, and his son/daughter night out to the movies. An afternoon picnic, where he will not have to do one thing but sit back and enjoy the goods. What person would not enjoy something like this? Also the best thing is that the father can keep the Father's Day coupons and remember the good old times he had with his child or children.

Collaborate with your mother, and make a scrap book full of photos of your father throughout his lifetime. When you present the book to your father, ask him to point out some of the pictures and tell you stories about the pictures. Many fathers adore telling stories about growing up, and sharing memories. This could be a nice way to get to know your father a bit better and perhaps share a bit about yourself with him.

Surprise your father by showing up at the doorstep, blindfold him and lead him to a favorite park. Have a picnic ready, with the help of your family. The mystery of wondering where he was heading would be a thrill. Also make sure to prepare activities that you can do with your father at the park. Such as a stroll through the park, and taking family portraits for memory's sake of this great Father's Day.

If there are old home videos available, perhaps transfer them onto a DVD disc and make a little documentary style movie out of the home videos. This could take a bit of time, but if you have experience with this sort of thing, it could be a wonderful way to preserve the home videos, and give it a "face-lift." Also maybe as an introduction in the beginning, you can give a little speech to your father, wishing him a happy Father's Day and how much he means to you.

If you live too far away to visit your father on Father's Day, there are still ways to "be there," such as a web-cam date. You could send your father a package and watch him open it while on the web-cam and chatting through a messenger or using a microphone so you both can hear each other speaking.

Hopefully these few suggestions give you a good idea of what to do as a Father's Day gift for your father. Do something unique, and not so simple. Your father will appreciate it!

The first Father's Day was observed on June 19, 1910 in Spokane Washington. It was proposed by Sonora Smart Dodd (Mrs. John B. Dodd) of Washington State in 1909 after attending a Mother's Day service.
