The customer selects the design, the words, and the size of the finished art. Arnet's has stone pieces, or people can bring their own. The cost for this original art runs from $40 to $200 depending on the size of the area the message covers, not the number of letters in your message. They have an inventory of graphic images, and they can develop a new image for a special occasion or event.
Imagine a piece of custom engraved granite used as a message stone, wall art, garden art, paperweight, marker, stepping stone, house numbers, or names.
Corporate customers can work with Arnet's staff to create one-of-a-kind awards, gift pieces, or company signage.
Carol Arnet's great-grandfather, Joseph Arnet, started the business, Arnet's Becker Burrell, to create distinctive cemetery memorials in 1904. This family owned and operated business is going strong with the 4th generation of Arnet management. Carol is proud to show the wall of family pictures and the first invoice handed out by the company.
Recently, Carol took me on a tour of the facility.
They have a full-time graphics department that creates the graphics and templates used by the sandblasting equipment to etch and engrave the slate, granite, and marble pieces they customize. Carol explained, "Artwork and decorative accessories can celebrate details about a person's life. This monument is for the grave of a Native American. We will be adding an arrowhead to recognize his special heritage."
Coal slag is the medium used for the blasting procedure. There is a specially designed booth that accommodates slabs of various sizes. Chad took off his protective gear to answer a few questions for me. He has worked at Arnet's for four years. It was all on-the-job training for him. "It was a year and a half before I felt I knew the job well," he said, smiling. For worker health and safety, a reclamation venting system pulls the silica dust from the air and stores it in containers outside the building.
