Fruits
Without a doubt, adding various fruits to your oatmeal is one of the more common place ways to add some healthy flavor. Aside from the standard slices of bananas or dried raisin, why not try and mix it up?
Maybe add a table spoon of apple sauce to your oatmeal or try canned fruit that is packed in their own juices and not the heavy syrup.
What makes fruit the perfect healthy addition to oatmeal is that there are so many options; you could go more than two weeks without ever having the same kind.
Proteins
Looking to add some more protein to your diet, maybe you should add some to your morning breakfast. For starters, you could add some non fat yogurt to give your oatmeal instead of milk.
If you are really adventurous, you could try adding a lightly scrambled egg or soft boiled egg to your hot oatmeal. Though it sounds different, there are those who will swear by this.
Fats
If you are looking to make your oatmeal a heartier meal, a little bit of fat will go along way. Peanut butter loves should try and add a tablespoon of peanut butter to your hot oatmeal. Or you could try any other variation of nut butter.
Chopped nuts or toasted unsweetened coconut flakes are the perfect way to give your morning breakfast a little kick.
