Unique Mother's Day Gifts

Mother's Day, May 11th, is fast approaching. Giving a great gift is a perfect way to show your appreciation for the years of care your mother has given you. Personalized gifts are wonderful and really enable you to give something your mom wouldn't get from anyone but you. Some of these items are straight from the store and can be made your own with just a little extra time. Here are some ideas to get you started on creating a personal and memorable Mother's Day gift for the special ladies in your life.

If your mother is a coffee connoisseur, why not create a collection of coffee from around the world with a mug made especially for her? A variety of organic, free-trade, and international coffees can be found at your local health food store or specialty shops in many malls. Design your own coffee mug or look for potters in your area that might be able to make a mug for you. Most local artists would love a chance to get their work out into the community. If you would like, you could even make or purchase a set that your mother could share with company.

A photo of your family may seem simple, but it's always a hit with moms. If you have a great photo of you and mom, that's even better. Maybe you can find a picture of the two of you when you were first born or as a small child, get a bi-fold frame and use both. It is something that will be seen daily, serving as a reminder of the unique bond you share with each other.

Another way to capture times you have shared is with a video collage. This is a great way to use some of those stockpiled videos that are collecting dust. Gather them together and make a video of still images or video clips set to music. You can find someone in your town to do this for you or, if you're tech-savvy, do it yourself with video production software.

Everyone loves a trip down memory lane. Capture memories from your childhood and recreate them with your mom on Mother's day. A park your mother took you to as a child is a perfect spot for a Mother's Day picnic. Mothers and daughters who especially remember a movie that you watched together, have a movie night at your home, free from any distractions other than popcorn, soda, and favorite candy. This requires some reminiscing and a lot of thought, but is a really cool way to make a Mother's Day your mom will not soon forget.

If you have a large family, get everyone together and throw a party in your mother's honor. Have a book, such as a scrapbook, that everyone can write a special letter expressing their love and appreciation for her. Take lots of pictures and include them in the book for her to enjoy for years to come.

Whatever you do, make sure your mother or mother-figure in your life knows how much you cherish her. She'll be grateful for all the attention you've given to making sure that this Mother's Day is the best she's ever had.
