Unique Retirement Gift Ideas

If someone you know is retiring soon you may be wondering what on earth you'll get them for a retirement gift. Instead of getting the same old engraved desk clock try to get creative and get the retiree in your life a special gift to mark this very exciting occasion. Here are some useful and appreciated ideas for retirement gifts.

Hobby Equipment. What does the person like to do? Does she golf? Does she like to knit? Coordinate your gift to go along with whatever this special retiree enjoys doing in her spare time. Chances are work has kept her from doing her hobbies as much as she would like. Encourage her to spend her time well in her retirement by purchasing hobby equipment to get her going again

Travel supplies. Many people plan to travel more in their retirement. If this is the case with the person whom you are purchasing a gift for, buy some travel supplies. You could get an updated atlas, some travel magazines or books about area destinations, a gas gift card, or even some travel sized toiletries. Put all of these items together into a special retirement gift basket just for the retiree who plans to travel.

Restaurant Gift Cards. Restaurant gift cards are a great choice for any retiree. Write a personal note in the greeting card to go along with your gift that indicates how the retiree should enjoy their extra time and celebrate by eating out more. Choose cards for the person's favorite restaurants, or better yet, choose cards for a restaurant the person has never tried before to encourage him to try new things in this new phase of life.

Memberships or season tickets. Does this retiree love visiting the local aquarium or zoo? Does she attend the ballet when possible or does she love baseball? If the person you're purchasing a gift for has an interest in local sports, cultural activities, or attractions, consider purchasing a year-long membership or season tickets. A retiree will really have the time to use a special gift like this.

Monthly service or deliveries. A final special gift you could choose for retirement is a monthly service of some sort. This could be fresh flowers delivered once a month, or fresh fruit. It could also be a monthly cleaning service or other time saver. The point of this gift is just to show the retiree that he should be enjoying his retirement by enjoying the finer things in life and taking it easy. Don't feel like you need to supply a full year's worth of items or services. 3 months is plenty.

Retirement is an exciting and important time for people. Show the retiree in your life just how much you care by giving one of these thoughtful gifts.
