Unique Stocking Stuffers for Children

Ben M
Christmas is around the corner, and for those of you that feel you almost have all of your shopping done then think again. You still have to buy stocking stuffers! When I was growing up, running into the living room and grabbing my stocking was the biggest thrill on Christmas morning. My mother always found unique items to stuff in my stocking, and it was exciting because I never knew what to expect. Don't be boring with loads of candy. To be honest, after all the candy they'll probably need a trip to the dentist. The great news with children is that they are not picky and the simplest of ideas require little money and can be very creative. Here are a few inexpensive stocking stuffers that are sure to make your children smile on Christmas morning.

Bubble Gum.
Children receive candy all year long whether it's from Valentine's Day to Halloween. On Christmas, bubble gum will be the only candy-like substance they'll put into their mouth if you follow my suggestions. Children love bubble gum, and chewing it is much easier on their mouths than eating hard candy. Gum is inexpensive and you can even buy a variety of different kinds for them.

Latest Disney Movie.
This is probably the most expensive item out of my list. A DVD will average $15.00, but the great news about a Disney movie is that it's the gift that keeps on giving. Unlike gum or candy, the DVD will keep children busy on several different occasions and can provide you with some much needed rest! Disney movies are timeless classics. Find out what the latest Disney release is and buy a copy.

Personalized Necklace.
This gift is more appropriate for a little girl than boy, but it can work either way. You can either buy the necklace pre-made at a shop or buy the cheap materials, including the string, decorative beads, and lettered blocks that will spell out their name. Little girls love personalized things, and I can guarantee they'll put it on as soon as they discover it.

Mittens.
By the time Christmas has rolled around, the weather has gotten colder and you need to keep your child warm. Mittens may not be a child's idea of a great gift, but keep in mind that, by this point, they've unwrapped loads of toys. To add a clever touch, you can personalize the mittens by sewing letters onto the fingers or face of the gloves.

Silly Straws.
This was a gift I received when I was a child and I loved it. Silly straws are a very cheap gift and children will use them every time they drink a beverage. The straws come in all shapes and sizes, and you could even buy your child a variety of colors and shapes to give them a few to choose from.

Chalk and pencils.
Stir your child's creative minds with a new chalk and colored pencil set. Again, this gift is fairly inexpensive and can be used time and time again. You could even throw in a couple of coloring books or blank paper to get them started. Maybe they'll draw you a nice picture of their Christmas morning for you to hang on the refrigerator!

Money.
By giving your child a little bit of money, such as $10-$15, they'll think they just won the lottery. Children love acting like they're grown up, and by giving cash they'll feel independent and free to buy anything they wish. They'll spend hours just thinking of the different ways they can spend their money. It's also a great way to implant the idea of budgeting and spending their earnings wisely. A little bit of cash can go a long way with a child.

Bouncing balls.
Another inexpensive item that will keep your child entertained for hours. Children can take these balls everywhere and bounce them around. It's just another way to keep themselves busy and burn some of that energy.

These are just a few stocking stuffers you can get for your child at Christmas. Stockings don't always have to be filled with expensive toys and chocolate. Sometimes the simplest of gifts can go a long way!
