Unique Themes for Designing Your Child's Bedroom

Jane Vee
There are many themes to choose from when decorating your child's bedroom. There is Disney characters, Nickelodeon characters, even Muppets. You can find almost any television character to decorate a child's bedroom with. What if you want a unique theme for your child's bedroom? Parents will need a unique theme their child will enjoy.

The first thing a parent needs to do is to think of the things their child likes. Once the parents have a list of what the child likes, the parent will have to incorporate it into a theme for the child's bedroom. Here are a few ideas for unique themes for designing a child's bedroom.

Clouds - Clouds can be on the wall or just on the ceiling depending on what the parent wants the room to look like. Another unique spin to adding clouds to a child's bedroom is to make clouds and hang them from the ceiling. Clouds could be made out of the cotton pads found in the craft section or even poster board paper.

Stars/Planets - Most stores sale glow in the dark stars that you can stick on the walls or the ceiling. If the child is a space nut, the parent can have the child help decorate by making models of the planets and sun and then, hanging them from the ceiling in the bedroom. The ceiling can be painted black with the glow in the dark stars attached to it. If you do not want the ceiling black maybe paint the planets on the wall, or at least a few and have them large enough to make the wall colored in planets and fill in the left over space with black.

Outside - If the child likes to be outside, an outside scene painted on the wall will help keep your child indoors when he or she wants to be outside. The ceiling can have stars attached to it. The carpet could be green for grass or blue for water and the pictures on the wall can correspond to the color of the carpet. Depending on the parent's creativity and time, any straight edged furniture like dressers or bookshelves can even have trees attached to the side of them or the parent can put a potted tree in the bedroom for the outdoor look.

Sports - If the child likes a specific sport or every sport, the parent can easily find wall border or wall paper that the parent can decorate the room with. If the parent is good at drawing and painting, he or she may want to put a sports scene on the wall or even just sports equipment.

Ocean/fish - Ocean or fish scenes are beautiful for a bedroom or bathroom. If the child likes ocean scenes the parent can easily find accessories that will match. The carpet can even be blue to accentuate the scene. If the room is tile, white tile looks the best with deep blue walls that have brightly colored fish swimming on them.

Animals - Most children love animals. If it is one specific animal or all animals, the room can be painted and border put on the walls or wallpaper with the different animals can be hung.

Dinosaurs - Dinosaurs could decorate a boys or girls room. The room could have dinosaur accessories as well.

Whatever the child likes can be incorporated into their room décor. The room can be designed with hearts, flowers, cars and trucks, or even construction equipment. The bedroom design should be something the parents can live with as well as the child. The parents are the ones that will have to change it in a couple of years. If the parents paint the bedroom in neutral tones they can accessorize the room in whatever design the child wants and will be able to easily change it.
