Unique and Traditional 'J' Baby Names for the Duggars

Picking out baby names is one of the more enjoyable aspects of parenting. The name parents pick will affect the child the rest of his or her life. Traditional baby names took a back set lately to more unique names. The names celebrities pick are far-fetched and some are down right silly. Celebrities have always been known for their wild baby names. The Duggars of Arkansas should know a thing or two about baby names. They are celebrities themselves starring in the reality TV family with 18 kids on TLC's '18 Kids and Counting'. Parents Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar announced the arrival of baby number 19 due in March on the Today show. The kids range in age from 21 yrs to around 10 months. Unlike other TV stars, their names make sense. All the kids' names start with J.

Josh (expecting with wife Anna in October)
Twins Jana and Jon-David
Jessa
Jill
Jinger
Joseph
Josiah
Justin
Jason
James
Twins Jedidiah Jeremiah
Joy-anna
Jackson
Jennifer
Johanna
Jordyn

There is a mix of names in the list. Jana and Jessa are not too common for girls. It took them 17 kids to use the name Jennifer. There are not too many named Josiah and Jedidiah running around. There is not a wide variety of J names and they have fallen out of popularity. It can be tough to come up with J baby name after 18 kids. Here are a few J baby names the Duggars could use.

Jayla

Jayla is perhaps on of those made-up names like Jaden for boys. It has no origin. Jayla took the place of the 1980's name Kayla like Kay lee took over Haley in the 1990's. Jayla is popular among African Americans and rising in use. It makes a unique name and does not resemble any of the other Duggar names.

Jade
Jade is from the English meaning Jewel though some sources say it is Spanish origin. Jade is commonly associated with the precious stone. Jade rose in use after the birth of Mick Jagger's daughter in 1971. It is still a rare name more commonly a middle name.

Jacqueline

Jacqueline is of Hebrew origin meaning supplanted or Yahweh will protect. The name grew in popularity in the 1960's due to Jackie Kennedy. The Duggars would have a field day with this name since they like unique spellings. Jaclyn, Jacklyn, Jacolyn, are just a few variations.

Jenna, Jena

Jenna is from the English meaning 'little bird'. Jenna also means 'blessed white' and it is pet form of Jennifer and Guinnievere and a common name for females. The name became popular after a character on 'Dallas'.

Jerica, Jerrica

Some say Jerrica has no origin and a play on Erica. It is a feminine form of Jericho. Jerrica Benton was the secret identity of the 1980's cartoon character Jem. It is common in Australia.

Jessica

Jessica comes from the Hebrew meaning 'to behold'. I am surprised the Duggars have not thought of Jessica. It would be similar to Jessa but so are some of the other kid's names. Jessica remains popular today and ranked number 32 on the top 100 names.

Jewel

Jewel comes from the old French meaning plaything. It is also a term of affection. It would be a unique baby name for a girl. Most parents are hesitant to use it because of singer jewel.

Judith

Judith is the feminine form of Judah and from the Latin meaning 'of Judah'. Judith was Esau's wife in the Old Testament. Some accounts say Judith was Adam's first wife and when she refused to obey him Eve was created.

Boy's Names

Jacob

Jacob comes from the Hebrew and English meaning supplanter or heal grabber. It is another common Biblical name I am amazed the Duggars have not used. In the bible, Jacob was born with the heel of Esau hence the meaning. Jacob was the son of Isaiah and Rachel and one of the leaders of Israel's twelve tribes.

Jared

Jared originates from the Hebrew meaning descendant or descending. In the Bible Jared was the sixth descendant of Seth and pre-flood ancestor. The name rose in popularity after a character in the 'Big Valley' TV show.

Jaden

Jaden is one of those made-up baby names It has no meaning or origin. It is thought to be a play on Braden and Aidan. Britney Spears helped the popularity trendy by naming one of her sons Jaden.

Jude

Here's another biblical J baby name. Jude originates from the English meaning praise. Jude was common during the 18th century. The Beatles sang a song named "Hey, Jude".

Jonah

Jonah comes from the Hebrew meaning 'dove'. Nadya Suleman named one of the octuplets Jonah. In the Bible, Jonah stayed inside the body of a whale for three days.

Some additional 'J' girl names are Julia and Jocelyn for girls. Julia is from the Latin meaning 'fair haired' and Jocelyn is German meaning 'leader of the German tribe' Jeffrey, Jansen, and Judson are other boys names. I can't believe 'Jeffrey' hasn't been used. Jansen (son of Jan) from the Scandinavian and Judson are rare boy's names. 'J' is a tough letter but there are still many names to select. This is a good start for anyone who wants all their kid's names to start with 'j'.
