Unique Treats for Wedding Reception Desserts

Robin Neorr
Most wedding dessert traditionally consists of the overpriced, over decorated wedding cake. I know that I had one. Lately people have been breaking away from tradition and going with more unique wedding reception deserts in lieu of or in addition to wedding cake. Here are three different ideas that will set you apart from the crowd.

Cupcakes: They are the latest trend these days. There are several websites and even blogs completely devoted to cupcakes.

Most people who use cupcakes for there wedding reception use them in lieu of a wedding cake. Wedding cupcakes are often stacked on a stand and layered in a manner to mimic the traditional wedding cake. The benefit a wedding cupcake has over the traditional cake is the variety of flavors you are able to offer your guests. You can have three hundred guests and make six different flavor cupcakes. This is not something that is easily done with a traditional cake.

Wedding cupcakes can also take on a unique theme and design with special wedding cupcake stations available by companies such as pink cake box.

If you just can't shake the feeling that you have to cut the cake you can still have a six inch cake made that you can not only cut with your life partner, but you can also freeze the rest for your cake for one year anniversary.

Dessert Bar: Remember the excitement that you used to feel when you were a child and you got to go to a sundae bar. You had so many different choices and a sense of excitement from creating your own unique dessert.

Give your guests that childhood joy by having a dessert bar. You can do the traditional sundae bar or mix things up a bit by having a cheesecake bar or a chocolate buffet with a wide variety of different types of chocolates guests can choose from.

Chocolate Fountains: I have never met anyone who hasn't loved a chocolate fountain. There is just something so exciting about dipping strawberries, cherries, rice crispy treats, and pretzels in chocolate.

For your wedding you can mix the chocolate fountain up a notch by having not one, not two, but three different flavored chocolate fountains. You can have a dark chocolate, white chocolate, and milk chocolate fountain. Offer your guests some unique items to dip such as fresh pears, pineapple, star fruit, kiwi, orange slices, and apple slices.

Breaking away from the norm is a fun way to have your wedding be remembered as the special event that it truly is.

I would love to attend a wedding where any one of these tips were utilized. I'm so tired of dry, nasty wedding cakes. I will print this out and present to any future brides I come upon. A really clever, original article!

Fantastic! I'm actually using cupcakes for my wedding instead of a cake and I'm planning on doing a few different flavors to help create a better variety. Thanks for the other ideas though, perhaps I'll combine a few and do something a bit more! =]
