No matter where the family meets, one important decision is where the reunion or main event(s) will be held. Traditionally this is an outdoor park, hotel or community center. Nonetheless, with some creative thinking and planning, there are many unique spots in which to hold this special event. Some of these unique venues are sure to make the reunion one that is unforgettable.
Family Reunion on a Farm or Ranch - Many corporations and organizations choose farms and ranches for retreats. One reason is the seclusion, another is that of activities that promote team building. An objective of most family reunions is to encourage bonding and unity. Consequently, team building activities are also wonderful for family reunions. Some of these activities might include mountain hiking, fishing, pistol shooting, canoe racing and scavenger hunts. Additionally, many of these resorts/facilities offer bunkhouse style accommodations (also great for bonding) along with kitchenettes (allowing for families to cook their own meals if they desire).
Family Reunion at a Castle - Most have heard of the renowned Biltmore Castle in North Carolina; nonetheless, there are many beautiful castles throughout the United States. Some of these breathtaking buildings are available for rent. One might only be able to rent a room in a castle (such as for the reunion banquet or ball), while some smaller castles can be rented in their entirety (allowing everyone to stay overnight in the castle).
Family Reunion on an Island - An island is a wonderful place to celebrate one's family. Some possibilities for island family reunions in the United States include Mackinac Island (Michigan), Martha's Vineyard/Nantucket Islands (Massachusetts) or Port Clinton (Ohio).
Family Reunion at a Campground - For the outdoorsy family, a campground might be an ideal reunion site. Members can bond through activities such as fishing, singing and making smores around the bonfire. Options include camping outdoors in tents, or renting cabins in the woods.
Family reunions are very special because one has the opportunity to see and spend time with loved ones. Choosing a venue that is memorable can only make the occasion even more special.
