Unique Wedding Table Centerpiece to Fit Your Style
Centerpiece Ideas Ranging from Elegant to Fun and Funky
Containers
You will need to start with a base for your design. Consider glass cylinders. They come in different heights. The most common width is three and a half inches. They are very versatile and easy to find. If you want more of a contemporary look try square and rectangle glass containers. Another trendy option is to bring in a lot of height to your design by using a tall slender container. Pick something very tall so the main display will be above the heads of your guests so they can still see each other across the table. You can use a large flower display that seems to burst at the top into a large arrangement.
You can either purchase your containers or check to see what your local rental company carries. Glass cylinder containers are useful around your house after your wedding. They are great to use in the bathroom to store cotton balls, bath salts and other sundries. Some of the other containers might be more impractical or too expensive to purchase. Many rental companies carry a nice variety for a fraction of the purchase price.
Flowers
Flowers are the most popular choice and the most traditional. If you decide to arrange them yourself you may want to check out a few floral design books. You don't have to do anything too complex. One simple spray of orchid blooms in a tall rectangular container is clean and elegant. Try three big bright gerbera daisies in different colors with matching ribbon in the same container for a more casual look.
You can purchase your flowers in bulk at a wholesale store or even at a club-style warehouse. Flowers can vary in price depending on the season. If you want to save money don't get your heart set on a certain bloom. Check with a florist to see what is available at the cheapest prices the month you are getting married. You will want to wait and buy your flowers at the last possible moment and store them in a cool place, preferably refrigerated.
Silk flowers are also an option. Although most people prefer real flowers, some silk flowers are very life-like. They are not necessarily cheaper. The advantage is that you can have them arranged and ready much sooner in advance.
Other Options
You can skip the flowers all together if you would like. Try something a little different. Fresh fruit is colorful and fun. Bright green apples scattered on a tray mixed with candles is both stylish and a little different. Artichokes are hip right now in the base of a container mixed with dried grasses and velvet ribbon. You can do almost anything edible. Towers of chocolate candy or chocolate dipped strawberries are fun. They can also double as dessert for your guests. Little wrapped boxes tied with ribbons on a tiered tray that also double as guest favors can be stunning. Fill your boxes with candy or something that goes with your theme.
Fun Ideas
Fill three different containers in different heights with Skittles or M&M candies for each table. Poke one big brightly colored daisy into the center of each container. Tie a ribbon around the middle of each container.
For a fall wedding put pumpkins in the center of your table on top of glittery organza fabric. Tie big velvet bows around the stems of each pumpkin.
Make candles out of old vintage wine bottles. Place them in the center of your table on an antique gold charger and drape bunches of green and purple grapes around the base for a Tuscan look.
Wheat grass can be purchased at a whole foods store by the trays. Cut sections and put into a large shallow square container. Make sure the grass fills the container to the edge. Nestle yellow lemons throughout the bright green grass. "Plant" daisies throughout the grass.
Visit your local craft store to see what is available and what inspires you. Remember that you can make a centerpiece out of almost anything. Pick something that represents you and your unique style.
