Unique Winter Events in Atlanta, GA

Rhetta Akamatsu
Winter in Atlanta this year is unpredictable. Is it freezing, or can you go out without your coat? Will it rain? Will it snow?

But one thing you can count on is plenty of unique opportunities for fun for the whole family. Centennial Park gives you the opportunity to show off your skating skills, Stone Mountain lets you play in the snow no matter what the weather, New Years brings the chance to see the biggest peach you've ever imagined as well as a whole day of football festivities, and the ASO fills the whole season with beautiful music. Read on to find out more.

Ice Skating, Centennial Park through January 31st (began November 14)

For the 13th year, Centennial Park is the site of the only outdoor iceskating rink in Atlanta. For $7 admission and $2 for skate rental for 90 minutes, skaters can unleash their inner Olympic athlete, while observers can watch for free from the covered observation area as holiday music and theatrical lighting enhance the experience for everyone.

Snow Mountain, Stone Mountain

Stone Mountain brings the snow to Georgia! Since Mother Nature is notoriously stingy with the white stuff around here, Stone Mountain provides Snow Mountain, beginning December 26 and available on weekends through March 7th. There's a 400' tubing hill, a SnowZone full of fun snow activites and a Little Angels area for safe fun for the smallest kids. For five days in December, from December 26th to the 30th, you can get a combo ticket that allows you to enjoy all of the activities at Snow Mountain and A Stone Mountain Christmas for only $40. Tickets are regularly $25 for adults and kids.

New Years Eve Peach Drop

Full day of fun, with children's activities, live music, and the Peach Drop, when the giant (800 lb.) peach descends at midnight watched by around 100,000 happy people! This event takes place at Underground Atlanta, located at
50 Upper Alabama St SW.

New Year's Eve also means the Chick-Fil-A Bowl in Georgia. The Chick-Fil-A Bowl is the 9th oldest Bowl game in America and has sold out for the past twelve years in a row. More than just a rousing football game, the festivities start out with a parade at 12:30 which ends at the Georgia World Congress Center, where fans can take part in a FanFest with attractions, games, food and beverage, leading right up to the game itself!

ASO Holiday Concerts

Every year, the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra provides an outstanding series of Holiday Concerts throughout December. This year, the concert series begins with Handel's Messiah on December 3rd and 5th and The ASO Gospel Christmas on December 4th and 5th, and then continues with ASO Kids' Christmas, Christmas With the ASO, A Very Merry Holiday Pops, and the ASO New Years Eve concert. Check the ASO website for times and places.

So, whatever your tastes, join us in Atlanta for the type of fun that gives you a warm feeling even on the coldest days!
