With this, many fields in the South, during peak harvest season are now left empty. These farmers do not want tao pay minimum wage to "legal" citizens to do the job but rather relied on illegals who they can pay less until now. The United States has continued to step up their number of raids, taking the farmer's working slaves away. They have also begun sending numerous Mexicans on their way back to Mexico, filling up Mexican shelters with deportees headed back to Mexico. These Mexican Shelters are originally the last stop for Mexicans who are headed to the United States, but now it is the other way around.
An amazing number, the United States border agents have sent back 55,545 illegal migrants from Mexico who crossed the borders between October and June alone. How do they cross the borders coming here? They simply walk through miles of the desert and then swim across the Rio Grande. Though, now facing more resistance as the United States has been strongly enforcing border patrols.
What does this say to Mexicans? Well, most Mexicans now are giving up on the American dream. They are just staying home. And those in this country illegally now are worried as well. The United States has announced Friday, August 10th that they will continue their crackdown to undocumented workers, ultimately purging the country from illegal citizens.
There is still much heated debate within the United States due to the deporting of several Mexicans, which are leaving fields and harvests in the South completely ruined and rotten. New legislation by Congress states that all workers must provide a legitimate Social Security number or they should be fired, where as if they are not, the employer will face consequences.
As for President Bush, he feels that Congress needs to pass something giving more people the ability to work. Employers are agreeing with the president with this, as Congress has continued to stall an accord giving workers the legal right to work.
"Pretty shortly people are going to be knocking on people's doors saying `Man we're running out of workers,'" Bush said.
As for Mexican President Felipe Calderon, he does not see much hope in the United States economy moving forward without the help of his Mexican citizens who are willing to work.
"The U.S. Congress, which today turns its back on reality, knows full well that the American economy could not move forward without the labor of Mexicans," stated President Caleron.
