I have lived in Arizona all my life and have had a difficult time finding quality veterinarians. The first time I went to University Animal Hospital was about 2 years ago. I had a puppy that was only 10 weeks old that became ill. He could hardly hold his head up and refused to eat. A friend advised that I try University Animal Hospital. I could tell that University Animal Hospital was a much better hospital from the first call I made to them. The lady that answered the phone was very friendly. She said they were all booked up that day. Then suggested that with the symptoms my puppy was having that I should just bring him in anyway and they will make sure he is seen quickly. While I was waiting for the doctor, I noticed that the hospital had a very good energy. The people working there seemed to be very genuine and sincere, and it really helped to put me at ease.
Then I met Dr. Jim Flegenheimer who examined my puppy and gave me a few options for treatment. CoCo ended up staying at the hospital for a week getting fluids and tests. They saved his life. He is sitting right by my side as I write this. I honestly don't think he would be alive today if I took him somewhere else. During the course of that week, they actually encouraged me to visit as much as I could. In addition, they did not have a problem with me going into their back room like most veterinarians do. I noticed the veterinarian assistants kept putting stuffed animals in CoCo's cage and one day they even gave me a picture that they took of him. In addition, Dr. Flegenheimer called me frequently to give me progress reports. Another thing I noted is that they do not seem as money orienated as other hospitals. I am sure money is important to them as it is to all of us. Yet I felt the main focus was just on providing the best care for my puppy and making him healthy again.
Since that time I have been back many times. I have brought my cats in, a stray dog, and of course little CoCo. I am so thankful to find such a great veterinarian that really cares. Dr. Flegenheimer who is now my regular veterinarian also has extensive training on orthopedic surgery. Many of the veterinarians there have a much higher level of training than required. Other areas of experience there include reptiles/exotics and performing laser surgery.
University Animal Hospital has 8 veterinarians and offers emergency services. They also provide boarding, grooming, and classes to help you take good care of your pet. I would highly recommend them to everyone!
