University of Texas at El Paso Nightlife

Nightlife around the University of Texas at El Paso is constantly changing and growing, while maintaining the classic tried and true spots for a goodtime. There's a phrase that every El Pasoan has heard multiple times, "there's nothing to do here." This faulty phrase can no longer be used in good conscience.

Mesa Street is the heart of UTEP nightlife, nearly all hot spots lie on Mesa or just off of the street. Just think of Mesa Street as "Main Street."

The newly revamped and relocated Club 101, now at 3233 N. Mesa is just up the street from the campus, and remains a favorite of the college crowd. You can grab a drink, partner and dance all in one. Club 101 is also well known for its numerous shows and concerts they house. A smaller intimate than a stadium or coliseum, but one which allows you the benefit of mingling with other concert goers and enjoying a mixed drink.

Downtown El Paso is just a stone's throw from UTEP and provides the more sophisticated club and bar atmospheres. A popular destination for the students who want to be seen and are members of the "scene crowd," is Studio 69, a slightly clever play on the New York club classic of the late 1970's. Studio 69 holds three different dance areas, each booming their unique sound. Crowds galore can be found on any given Saturday as they are only open the one night, they boast to be "El Paso's most exclusive club."

Every UTEP student must know that the heart and soul of the universities' student nightlife is the strip of bars and clubs known as Cincinnati Street. Numerous and a variety of social drink excursions lie in this capital of El Paso's party-goers. Cincinnatti Bar and Grill is a small bar with a "Cheers" like ambiance, where everyone knows your name. You can grab a beer, witness a body shot being taken off a chick and listen to the ever popular juke box, beware, play something the crowd doesn't like, you'll be overruled by the bartenders and lose your play.

Another Cinn Street favorite is Hemingway's, truly a college bar named after the infamous drunken writer Ernest Hemingway. Hemingway's hosts an insanely large variety of domestic and international beers. If you drop by the bar and order a mixed drink instead of a beer, this won't be your hangout.

Overlooking the throngs of happy shiny drinking people is Bar 26, with a blue-lit bar and popular balcony overlooking Mesa and with a view to the university. Bar 26 knows all about the mixed drink, and laid back late night crowd.

A new addition to the weekend scene is Kush. Kush houses a harem-like atmosphere of couches, pillows and lighting. Kush is a cushy place to sit with 10 friends, listen to the booming of the night and get your drink on.

Truly a favorite of the UTEP nightlife and Cinn Street area is the Black Market. Formerly a pizza place, the Black Market is now known as the coolest bar/club in the area. Play pool, get a great drink, run into any number of friends, hit the patio and enjoy the tempered night weather and enjoy. Black Marker also houses a small dance floor with a DJ spinning every weekend live and in house. If the DJ isn't there, you'll enjoy great alternative and indie music that's surely a favorite of the college crowd. If that doesn't get you in, perhaps it'll be the make-shift art gallery that's used as a venue for upcoming local artists. The art ranges from prints, photography, charcoals and paint on canvas. You never know who'll show at the Black Market, recently Beck played a surprise show at the bar.

A one stop shop for entertainment, drinks, music and socializing, the UTEP nightlife has something for everyone.
