Unknown Comic Books Turned into Movie Classics

Richard Banks
As a child I read comics. I always imagined I had powers like Superman or a web shooting from my wrist like Spiderman. It would be years before the pages of my favorite comics were on the big screen. The first I remember was Superman starring the immortal Christopher Reeve. The next movie pulled from the comics was Batman. After this successful series, others were to follow. Aside from the popular titles, there have been unknowns which created a buzz around their release. I will list five obscure comics which became box office successes.

Kick Ass
What is better than a super hero fighting crime? Superhero's with no powers fighting crime. A band of unknowns are on a mission to stop a powerful crime boss. This team of justice fighters will lead you on a wild ride of action, adventure, and truly awesome fight scenes lead mainly by Hit Girl. A must watch for adrenaline enthusiasts.

Constantine The Devil wants him, but can't have him. God needs him, but doesn't want him. What is a man stuck in the middle to do? John Constantine is on a mission to rid the world of evil, one demon at a time. This movie is perfect for your darker side.

Wanted Picture a band of assassins who can shoot super powered rifles from miles away. They also can curve bullets like a major league pitcher. Add in the visually appealing Angelina Jolie and you have a complete package. This high velocity thriller will have you on the edge of your seat until the final minute.

V for Vendetta Set in the near future, Great Britain is in the midst of totalitarian rule. The only hope to overthrow Parliament is a masked hero "V". Fast paced action coupled with political intrigue delivers a powerful storyline. "Remember, remember, the Fifth of November, the Gunpowder Treason and Plot. I know of no reason why the Gunpowder Treason should ever be forgot..." This phrase will stick in your mind for days after the movie is finished.

WatchmenOne of their own was killed. People are killing masked hero's, but why? Watchmen is a movie of pure creative genius. From the spectacular soundtrack, classic '60's and '70's rock, to the state of the art visuals, all points to Watchmen becoming a cult classic. More importantly are the subtle undertones of deity and morality. "Who will save us now?"

An above average movie collection cannot be complete without these five comic book to movie releases. Once you buy the comic books you will have a better understanding of the origins of these characters. You will enjoy countless hours watching these titles which have an excellent re-watch value.
