Virgin Mobile announced their unlimited mobile broadband Internet plan in August 2010. Unlike other mobile provides, Virgin is now offering unlimited Internet access, with no restrictions or excess fees, for only $40 per month. Along with this incredible plan in an economy where everything seems to cost extra, Virgin Mobile also introduced their MiFi device, which allows up to five wireless devices to connect to the Internet at one time.

Battery Life

The MiFi from Virgin Mobile is small, credit card like device that works on AC or battery power. On batter power, the device will last up to 4 hours with minimal use. For a single device browsing the Internet, expect around 2 to 3 hours of battery life. The more devices you connect, the quicker the battery drains. However, extra batteries can be purchased if you want to use the device on the go.

Network

The MiFi connects to Sprint's 3G network, so service is available wherever Sprint coverage is available. Max connection speed is 56 Mbps, with the average staying anywhere from 40 Mbps to 54 Mbps, depending on your environment.

What's Included

Unlike most plans, there is no contract when you purchase a MiFi device. The $40/month plan requires no contract, but the downside is there's no discount on the device. A single time fee of $149 gets you the MiFi device, charger, batter, instruction guide and carrying pouch. There is no activation fee, but you must register the device in order to start using the device.

Connecting

The MiFi works differently than the typical USB devices used to connect to mobile broadband networks. The MiFi acts as a wireless router, complete with networks security. Turn on a device, access your network settings and browse for wireless access points. Once the device appears, enter your password and you're connected. Connecting on most devices takes less than thirty seconds.

You can connect from 30 to 40 feet away. This means you can use the device to connect multiple devices in a single room or home without every moving your MiFi. You can use the MiFi to connect indoors or out.

Charging

You can charge the MiFi as you use it. If you plan on using the device for several hours or more, you can leave the adapter connected to ensure constant power. The device does not over charge.

Overall, the Virgin Mobile MiFi is an incredible deal for any Internet user looking for a cheaper, reliable plan. With no contract, you don't have to worry about penalty fees for canceling your service. You also don't have to purchase multiple devices to connect multiple computers, printers and game systems. You also don't have to monitor how much data each device uses. Enjoy the Internet again without restrictions.
