Uno the Beagle Wins Best in Show at the Westminster Kennel Club

A beagle has never won best of show at the Westminster Kennel Club before. The beagle has always been overlooked when it came down to the Best in Show. This year, the 132nd annual Westminster Kennel Club dog show was held in New York, at Madison Square Garden, and for the first time a beagle has won the Best in show award. The winning beagle is a cute brown, black and white dog, named Uno.

The beagle is a great dog it is somewhat of a mystery why one has never one best in show before. Some people think that it is because they are such a common dog they don't stand out in the ring. Others think that since they are not that showy meaning you can't trim and coif their hair, that they haven't stood out. The beagle is the only breed of dog that has consistently been in the nations most popular dogs for the past 100 years. The beagle is a hunting dog, and you could recognize their baying howl from any other dog.

A beagle has a very strong sense of smell, and they are very curious. They are often known as hunting dogs. The first dog that most people think of when they think of beagles is snoopy. Beagles are diggers, every time I go in the back yard I need to watch for holes that mine might have dug. Beagles are also barkers, while this bothers some people, I appreciate it. I like that my dog will bark a lot because it scares off some people without having to have a huge watch dog. Beagles are generally great with children, and are very loving dogs. Beagles love attention, and can usually get everyones attention. You probably noticed this if you watched the Westminster Dog show, when Uno got the whole crowd behind him with his standing ovation from the roaring crowd.

I love owning a beagle. I am sure since Uno was announced Westminster Kennel Clubs Best in show, there will be an increase in peoples interest in beagles and beagle adoption. Owning a beagle can be wonderful but just like owning any dog there are certain things you need to be aware of. A beagle is a high energy dog, if you want to own one make sure you have a back yard with a fence for him to play him. Because of their curiosity be prepared for them to investigate everything, a behavior that will often get them into trouble.

So all you beagle owners can be proud that a beagle not to different from the one you have at home has been named Best in show by the Westminster Kennel Club. And to anyone considering adopting a beagle, you will find a very cute and loving pet in a beagle.
