No Death Could Bind Your Will

sherrie Hurd
daffodils and marigolds
enfolds and remembers
a day last September
the funeral parlor holds
Blessed are the grieving
leaving me still
impatient until
the body took its leaving
Shocking as it be
the coffin empty stood
a thing of empty wood
waits alone for thee
Roses and white lilies
an inocuous driving scent
a life yet uncontent
from death it flees
Your mortal cradle empty still
as faces all afright
in slow uneasy night
no death could bind your will.
