Unsee, Unhear: Fight Institutional Child Abuse

Kathy Moya
They say to "un-see" The tortures that be, Everywhere, all around me. If my eyes dare stray, Then I will pay, For mine will come the very next day. When the screams are clear We're to "un-hear" By singing a little ditty of cheer. Staff says: "Let's have a song! No, it's not wrong! I SAID sing a song! It's a sing a-long!" "And sing with a smile For, it might be a while Before that kid stops spitting up bile." "A broken rib? Let's give him a bib! For you know him, he's telling a fib!" Staff says: "You're rib isn't broken! We know you're just jokin' So you can go back to drinkin' and smokin'!" And I think to myself: He isn't jokin', can't you see? His rib is sticking out as plain as can be! Can no one see this? NO ONE but me???? Oh yeah, I forgot, we're to Un-SEE! I can't take any more! I want to walk out that door! But I can't, 'cause I'll just end up on the floor. I hope I'm not here for eternity! It's tough to un-hear, It's tough to un-see, all the tortures that be, everywhere, all around me.
