Until We Meet Again

Cheri Majors, M.S.

Eulogy poem written for my father's funeral.

Carved into our hearts, a simple epitaph,

Your greatest joy was to make others laugh!

Easing life's pain with a quick joke or two,

A contagious sense of humor drew all of us to you!

Always with your jokes and smiles,

An ocean separating us by miles.

Home away from home, found in paradise,

And surrounded by friends, you chose to live out your life.

We seem unable to release,

Or be there to rest you in peace.

Your untimely passing has caused us such grief,

So taken by surprise, and paralyzed with disbelief.

With Maui as your mentor, enticing you away,

Our love was always with you, for your happiness we prayed.

Life's youthful roller-coaster thrills kept your optimism high,

Yet later found contentment in glistening ocean, sunset skies.

Your presence we mysteriously felt,

On that last day which you were dealt.

As God stretched out his arms, to embrace you away,

You left without warning, life fulfilled, unable to stay.

Though the tears cannot be held,

Against this you'd rebel!

As per specific instructions, upon your final nod,

We should laugh and be happy, when you've gone to talk-story and fishing with God.

And if wealth were measured by numbers of friends,

You were truly rich, and had millions to spend!

Yet carved into our hearts, a simple epitaph,

Your greatest joy was to make others laugh!
