Untitled Rantings of a Sleep Deprived Nine to Fiver

Heather Dekin
Awoken to the listless sounds of silence
And a mind on continuous recall
Moments of calm and pure terror jabbing flesh
With the sharpness of a switchblade
Calling the FBI to find a trace of light
And some piece of mind
Needing time and a way to build a foundation
Without looking like a psychotic sewer monkey
Eyes bigger than silver dollars and mouth foaming
Rabid from lack of dreaming and relaxation
Injected with a needle as long as a human arm
Eyes narrowing to small horizontal lines
Darkness blanketing everything for at least eight hours
Goodnight indeed with dreams aplenty
Time to celebrate this closing of the endless day
Staying asleep as long as the drugs and mind
Permit this vacation from reality.
