Unusual Activities to Entertain Your Wedding Guests

Michele Arrowsmith- Rowe
Don't want to have the typical ho-hum chicken dance at your wedding reception? Want your wedding to be memorable? From lounge set ups, dance lessons, wine tasting, lawn games, casino, murder mysteries, and photo booths - - here are some activities that surely will be crowd pleasers!

If you don't want the cookie cutter wedding reception, have a lounge cocktail wedding reception! Set up the room with comfortable couches, chairs, coffee tables, ottomans, and cocktail tables, stools, and a dance floor. Your guests will think they are at a night club! This set up will give your wedding reception a casual and comfortable setting. Your guests will feel free to relax and mingle. Depending on what hors d'oeuvres and bar arrangements you coordinate ahead of time, you can save money compared to the cost of a four course, sit down dinner! However, keep tabs on your bar bill throughout the evening! People tend to drink more at this type of event!

Want the activity to happen on the dance floor? Hire professional dancers to entertain and then give dance lessons, to your guests. This will help get the "wallflowers" onto the dance floor! Pick dances such as: line, square, or ballroom dancing. However, keep in mind your wedding theme, when picking your entertainment and dances! If your family has cultural or religious dances in its history, include them as well! This will make your wedding unique and very personal!

Are you having your wedding in a vineyard? Offer wine tasting to you guests! This activity would get everyone to mingle! Don't want your wedding favors to go to waste? Have your guests leave with their favorite bottle of wine, at the end of the wedding!

Croquet anyone? If you are having an outdoor or garden affair, why not include a game of croquet, bocce ball, lawn bowling, or miniature golf? These games will surely entertain a crowd of all ages!

Are you getting married in Las Vegas? If so, the casino will certainly entertain your guests! If not, why don't bring the gaming to you? Hire a gaming company to come in and set up gaming tables. Keep in mind that this set up takes up a lot of space! You will need to coordinate this set up with your banquet or wedding reception coordinator, before signing a contract with the gaming company! After all, it would be disappointing to hire the gaming company and then not have the space to fit all the tables! Is gambling illegal in your area? No worries! Your guests can win prices instead of money! Do you have minors and don't want them to gamble? Set up another activity area with age appropriate games; that will keep the minors occupied. For a list of gaming vendors, call your local party rental companies.

Are you are a couple that prefers the "theatrics?" Or, are you having a Halloween themed wedding reception? Have a murder mystery reception! Download a game from many online websites or hire a company to help you coordinate the game. Assign characters to all your guests or just your wedding party. Yes, there are theatrical events that can involve up to 200 people! Then, have all your guests come in costume of the era of that event! Also, have your whole reception designed around the theme! That will keep the whole event cohesive! With this type of event, your evening's affair will unquestionably not be forgetful!

If you want something fun, simple, and inexpensive - - rent a photo booth! Have a collection of different costumes, wigs, and props, for your guests to use in their photos. If you want to add some "pizzazz" to your guest book, have your guests add their pictures to your book, with an added note under the photo.

From lounge set ups, dance lessons, wine tasting, lawn games, casino gaming, murder mysteries, and photo booths - - these fun activities will positively make your reception memorable! You supply the unique settings and festivities and then relax; watch your guests create their own fun! Oh, and above all, don't forget to participate and party as well!

One of the most memorable weddings we ever attended took place on New Year's Eve and it was a costume wedding. Everyone had to wear a costume - but the theme was the roaring 20's. It was such a hoot - we had a blast :) I think I wore a flapper outfit!!! Gosh, I'd forgotten about that :) cheers

These are novel suggestions. I would never have considered offering wine tasting to wedding guests!
