Unusual Ghost Halloween Costume Ideas

Ghost costumes are an old Halloween favorite, but they don't have to be boring. There are many ways to give your ghost costume a little pizazz. The movies and television can provide inspiration for your unusual ghost costume. Here are a few ideas for fun and different ghost Halloween costumes that are sure to turn a few heads.

Ghost Rider Halloween Halloween Costume

Get a black vinyl jacket and a pair of blue jeans and black shoes. Then find a basic skull mask and a short curly red wig. Style the wig so that the hair sticks straight up in the air. Apply yellow hair spray to the wig, beginning at the bottom and working your way gradually upward. The yellow color should fade as you move closer to the ends of the wig. If necessary, you can also use orange hair spray to help create the proper gradient effect.

To make your Ghost Rider Halloween costume look more authentic, find a metal chain, some black chaps, a black belt, some spurs and spiked black leather gauntlets. If you can't find leather gauntlets that are already spiked, add some spike studs to the top of the gauntlets. Also attach three tall silver-toned plastic spikes to the shoulders of the jacket. Take care that you don't hurt yourself or other people with the spikes. Wrap the chain around your body.

Casper the Friendly Ghost Halloween Costume

Get some white cotton or polyester fabric or a large white bed sheet. Cut the fabric to make a mask with two eye holes and a smiling mouth. Make sure that the mask will cover your entire head and has a round and slightly bulging shape. If you like, draw a simple cartoon nose and eyebrows on the mask with black permanent marker. You can also use marker to accentuate the outline of the eyes and mouth. Then create a simple full length white gown to cover your body. Get some white gloves and white socks. If you need guidance creating the Casper the Friendly Ghost Halloween costume, use McCall's sewing pattern P243.

Pirates of the Caribbean Ghost Pirate Halloween Costume

To make a Pirates of the Caribbean ghost pirate Halloween costume, find a long gray coat, gray pants, boots and a gray tricorn pirate's hat. If you can't find gray pirate clothes, find black ones and dust them with white powder such as corn starch or spray them lightly with gray spray paint. If you like, you could also wear a skeleton T-shirt under your coat. Cut and fray the clothing along the ends. Get a skeleton mask or paint your face white and paint dark circles around your eyes. Get a red sash to go around your waist. Rip and fray it and soak it in tea or smudge it with dirt to make it look aged. Also find a prop pirate's sword and a brown vinyl belt to go over your shoulder.

Space Ghost Halloween Costume

Find a long-sleeved white leotard and tights. Attach an upside-down triangle of red fabric to the neckline of the leotard, then make a black Space Ghost emblem to attach to the red fabric. Also find a black cowl mask, a red belt and a yellow cape. Make Space Ghost gauntlets from cardboard, then paint them red. If you prefer, you could also make them from red vinyl fabric. Attach small yellow squares to the top of the gauntlets with hot glue. Wear white gloves and white shoes to make your Space Ghost Halloween costume complete.
