Unusual Places to Spend Thanksgiving in the U.S

Ted Sherman
For some families, it's traditional at Thanksgiving to celebrate at home, or drive over the hill and through the woods to grandmother's house. We've done all of that, but we've also tried different ways to enjoy the holiday together. Members of our family have experienced these unusual Thanksgiving ventures in previous years. We heartily recommend them for those with the spirit of adventure to try this year.

Grand Canyon Experience
One of our family's most memorable and unique Thanksgiving travel experiences was spending the holiday at the Grand Canyon. The magnificent El Tovar hotel, perched on the rim of the canyon, serves a full Thanksgiving feast in their grand dining room. The natural beauty of the area, along with the rustic charm of the hotel, make it a great way to experience Thanksgiving. Visitors should note, the hotel and the dining room are booked far in advance, so make advance reservations to ensure a space.

All-You-Can- Eat Thanksgiving Buffet In Las Vegas

For what I think is the best buffet in Las Vegas, go to the Bellagio. They will have a special Thanksgiving buffet November 24-27. The menu changes each year, but I find their quality and creativity is always unmatched. Holiday brunch is served 7 a.m. - 3 p.m. for $32.95, or just $6.00 more for a champagne brunch. Their holiday gourmet dinner, turkey with all the extras, is served 3 p.m. - 10 p.m. for $44.95 per person.

For the low-budget route, at Arizona Charlie's Wild West Buffet in Boulder City, there will be all kinds of sinful Thanksgiving dishes to sample. Just 20 minutes from the Las Vegas Strip, this strictly informal eatery will feature the usual turkey, as well as roast pork, fried chicken and prime rib entrees. Along with the pumpkin pie, other dessert choices will be apple pie, cheesecake and ice cream. All for only the price of $12.99 per customer.

Thanksgiving at the original Thanksgiving site
Enjoy your holiday dinner at the exact location where the friendly Native Americans coached the Pilgrims on how to cook turkey, a strange bird they'd never seen before. The reconstructed Plimoth Plantation and replica of the Mayflower, in Plymouth, Massachusetts, are regular daily tourist destinations throughout the spring, summer and autumn months.

Featured in the Plimoth Plantation and aboard the ship are host families in Pilgrim dress who demonstrate how people lived in the mid-17th Century settlement. The final days of the season are celebrated over the Thanksgiving weekend with traditional holiday foods and activities.
